Newcastle Need This Player On Form Tonight

Ayoze Perez started the game on Saturday in the good 2-1 win at Brentford and he played very well and set up the winning goal for Daryl Murphy with an expert cross from the left wing with his right foot that was inch perfect for the big Irishman to brilliantly head home.

Ayoze looked very sharp on Saturday, but he has a tendency to blow hot and cold, so we are really hoping the Spaniard is on form tonight against Birmingham City.

Ayoze Perez – in action at Leeds United

If he is that could almost guarantee that we can go through to meet Oxford United in the 4th round of the FA Cup and then we could have a decent enough chance of reaching the 5th round for the first time in a long time.

This is what the 23 year-old forward has to say about Newcastle’s current situation and tonight’s game:

“We know we have some injuries, but we still believe in the squad.” “We know there are a lot of games but we are ready for them and focused on Birmingham and getting a win.”

“There is a big squad and there are injured players but the staff still believe in us.”

“We have to just play football and do our best. We have a great chance to win.”

“It’s not less important just because it’s the FA Cup so we have to focus on Birmingham and getting through.”

“It was really important because we knew Brighton were losing against Preston at the time and we were beating Brentford.”

“We had to give everything on the pitch because it was a great chance for us.”

Our fans seem confident enough that we can go through but with a patched up team this could be very close.

I posted this yesterday, but for those who missed it.
If you can’t stomach Radio Newcastle tonight – which tbh I think is dross – the good news is the game is also on talksport 2 tonight, which I believe can be accessed worldwide online as well as on digital format radio. Sky, Virgin etc. Not as good as watching, but definitely better than listen to Ando telling you how crap the game is. 🙂

You keep referring to Top 8 players but your realize that we are not a Top 8 club?

We wont be able to attract a team of top 8 players when we get promoted. We may be fortunate and get a couple but we’re going to have to settle for some Mr Reliable types (like Snodgrass)

Yeah Bobby, Ando has been known to be slightly negative towards our players, some deserved but some definately not so.
    Cheers for the info.

I think the main issue with the BBC Newcastle commentary is that its always one guy who just doesn’t understand what’s going on and another who sounds like he couldve give less of a cr@p.

Talksport usually do a decent commentary. Just thought it might make a change to get an alternative take for those not being there. It surely can’t be worse can it? I thought it might have been just me, but apparently not. They could make First Contact sound boring.
Ando: ‘yes, I know, but come on, as aliens go, this one has no imagination. Two arms, two legs. No different from us really.’ Yawn.

Always hate how Ando makes it sound like every time the opposition have the ball that they are going to score…. whereas if you are watching the game realise the other team are still in their own half!!!

Big couple of weeks coming up for Perez hes been in and out of the team and has said he feels he needs a run in the team to produce his best form!!

Well with Gayle and Diame missing this is your best chance for a run in the team!!

Given Ashley’s reported renewed interest in matters NUFC, I suspect that Rafa won’t be too popular with him if we happen to win tonight. However, if Rafa played a young side and won progression in the cup, he could be seen as prioritising promotion and thus limiting any room for criticism from Ashley. However, has anyone worked out how to play Ashley whilst having a different opinion? I doubt it – he must be a nightmare to work for.

for anyone interested these are the signings so far in the championship, as published by BBC Sport:
not a lot as you can see
    1 January

Marvin Sordell [Coventry – Burton] Free

    4 January

Luke Varney [Ipswich – Burton] Free

Milan Djuric [Cesena – Bristol City] Undisclosed

Jens Hegeler [Hertha Berlin – Bristol City] Undisclosed

    5 January

Sam Johnstone [Manchester United – Aston Villa] Loan

Julien de Sart [Middlesbrough – Derby] Loan

    6 January

Izzy Brown [Chelsea – Huddersfield] Loan

Morgan Fox [Charlton – Sheffield Wednesday] Undisclosed

Greg Halford [Rotherham – Cardiff] Undisclosed

Ibrahim Meite [Harrow Borough – Cardiff] Undisclosed

Luke Murphy [Leeds – Burton] Loan

Bailey Wright [Preston – Bristol City] Undisclosed

    7 January

Jakob Haugaard [Stoke – Wigan] Loan

    9 January

Pablo Hernandez [Al-Arabi – Leeds] Undisclosed

Tiago Ilori [Liverpool – Reading] Undisclosed

David Nugent [Middlesbrough – Derby] Undisclosed

    10 January

Kazenga LuaLua [Brighton – QPR] Loan

    11 January

Craig Gardner [West Brom – Birmingham] Loan

    13 January

Sam Winnall [Barnsley – Sheffield Wednesday] Undisclosed

    14 January

Callum Connolly [Everton – Wigan] Loan

    16 January

Kieffer Moore [Forest Green – Ipswich] Undisclosed

    Jordan Spence [Unattached – Ipswich]

Interesting to see just who has recruited so far.

Exactly half of the deals so far, have seen clubs in the bottom eight bring in 11 players between them, to try and ward off relegation.

Another four deals have been done by clubs in lower mid-table (Villa, Birmingham and Ipswich) who have no realistic chance of promotion.

Whilst the five clubs currently in positions 3rd to 7th have all brought in at least one player, with Derby and Sheffield Wednesday the most active with two each.

Neither of the top two have dipped their toes in yet and interesting to see if Brighton, as well as Newcastle of course, make a move.

Rafa Benitez has indicated that there’s a strong chance any incoming players are likely to be on a loan basis initially and 11 (half) of these 22 deals above, were either loan arrangements or free agents/transfers.

It would be a disaster if anything happened to Shelvey tonight and I’d rather he was fully fit for Saturday. My thinking would be to give him 30 minutes at the end to get a bit of match fitness and no more. Anybody agree?

Tomorrow when watching Senegal vs Zimbabwe – as well as keeping an eye on number 12 Mo Diamé (if he plays) – look out for number 20 for Zimbabwe , attacking midfielder Khama Billiat .

He plays in South Africa for Mamelodi Sundowns and NUFC have enquired about him !!!!

Magpie, I’d give him an hour tonight then sub him. He needs game time after a lay off so the longer he can do the better imo. Want him to get his touch back for Saturday so I definitely think he’ll play tonight.

    Birmingham manager Gianfranco Zola:

“It’s a tough place to go (SJP) but I will make some changes because we also have a very important game at Blackburn on Saturday.

“I have to try to change some players, especially because we have one or two that have little issues physically and I want to preserve them.”
