Newcastle Still Hopeful Of Signing Former Winger

The Mirror is reporting today that Newcastle are keeping a close watch on the situation with Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend, who has been reported to be a surprise Newcastle target in this month’s transfer window.

Even though Andros left us in late June and just before pre-season started, most of the Newcastle fans are willing to have him back and certainly he played great for us in the last two months of the season.

Andros Townsend and Rafa Benitez

That was especially true in the last couple of months under Rafa Benitez when he played some of the best football of his career.

Andros’ move to Crystal Palace simply hasn’t worked out for him and he has been nowhere near the form he showed at Newcastle where he was quickly a crowd favorite because of his skillful play and he seemed to be lifted by the Geordie fans.

Sam Allardyce is keen to improve the squad at Palace this month so he has a chance of saving the club from relegation, but he may have to sell first.

Newcastle seem willing to pay out decent money for the player – and we suppose Newcastle could even pay out the £13M we received from Palace in June for the 25 year-old England International.

It would seem he would be a very good buy at that price.

After the 3-1 FA Cup win last night against Birmingham Rafa Benitez hinted that he was hoping to hear some good news shortly from Managing Director Lee Charnley on the transfer front.

Certainly signing Townsend would lift the Newcastle fans – let’s hope it happens.

What do you think?

Where do you think we can get the cover for Shelvey you’re looking for.

Who will want to come as cover???

If he’s cover now, whoever comes in will not be getting a start and he won’t be getting a start next season either.

You don’t need cover for Shelvey, you need someone better than Shelvey so it’s Shelvey’s who’s working his nuts off to get in the team next year.

That I think is the problem.
    Shelvey is a talent.
But, you would not play two players like him at the same time.
    Or would you.
To get someone as good would cost 15 Mill.
What would he do when Shelvey was fit.
    The bench ?

Rafa talked again about Shelvey dictating the tempo and that word CONTROL.
It seems to be all about that.
But, other sides will try to counter it and several have already.
