Rafa Talks About Elliot, Krul, Mitrovic And Rotherham

Rafa Benitez has just completed his press conference for the important game at home to Rotherham United tomorrow afternoon.

We now have two wins in a row after beating Brentford and Birmingham in the last week, so we are hoping we can make it three wins in a row tomorrow – although nothing is ever certain in the Championship.

It’s the games we should be winning – like the game tomorrow – that can trip us up – so the lads have to be at their best tomorrow.

Some of Rafa’s comments are now being reported on the Newcastle United Twitter account and on Chronicle Live.

Here’s some of what Rafa has said in no particular order:

“In terms of transfers, we’re still in the same situation. We are working with different names. Nothing new.”

“I am happy with Rob Elliot. He just needs to play with the U23s.”

“Tim Krul needs time away and football. We have three keepers here.”

“It’s a game tomorrow that obviously we’ll try to win.”  “Because of their position, people will say it’ll be easy but it will not be easy.”

“It’s the Championship –  we must respect Rotherham.”

“We have little knocks, little things, but I think they will be fine.” Mitrovic still not ready, Ameobi and Sterry in the squad.”

So it looks like Rafa wants Tim Krul to take some time off from the game with Newcastle already having three senior goalkeepers at Newcastle.

Ajax have said they may end the loan for Tim, with him still to make his debut for the Ajax first team.

And it seems there is no easy return for Rob Elliot with Rafa wanting him to play more games for the U23 side.

There has been some interest in Rob today from clubs wanting to get a goalkeeper in this month, but he will not be leaving Newcastle in January.

Fans expect us to win this game tomorrow – let’s hope they are right.

“All I’m askin’, is for a little respect when you come home”

No such thing as guaranteed games and as always, we’ll have to be focused and do what is expected.

    We should win.

What would happen if Shelvey got injured for 6-8 weeks mid February ? Then we’re left with no forward passing players and up shit creek again. Definitely need to sign at least two players in this window for me.

Your right about needing more creativity, will we get them , Im not sure, anybody in form aint going to come unless its in our league or below and even then the club wont let them go unless for daft money, which we wont pay….Rafas right, there is very little value in this window for teams in this league, if we were in the prem, we might stand a chance of doing business with clubs and players, in this league, we will struggle.
I think wel end up going with what wev got, use the squad and pray for noThing bad to happen in areas we may be short….like cm.
Just my opinion but times a ticking

Belfast…I’ve known I’m mad for ages. Are you still in denial about your own state? 🙂

Gimps I’m becoming less convinced we will as window the draws on to be honest, even a couple of loans would do. Going with what we’ve got would be risky but we might just get away with it. I’d rather we didn’t take the chance myself.

Belfast…Is that what the label says on the side of your pills? “For slight eccentricity”?

I suppose if it gets you taking them…
