African Star – Here’s Why Rafa’s One Of The World’s Best Managers

Christian Atsu is at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon as his country Ghana have qualified for the quarter-finals of the competitions and he has played very well for them so far.

Ghana got their second win of the tournament yesterday with another 1-0 win in Group D – this time over Mali – and he played the whole game.

Atsu put in another terrific display for his country yesterday.

Christian Atsu – another excellent game for Ghana

So Christian was very happy yesterday as both Ghana and Newcastle won their games.

Atsu has been doing well on loan at Newcastle this season (18 appearances 3 goals) after he struggled on other loan moves while he has been on the books of Chelsea since 2013.

Christian seems to put it down to Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez and he explains why he thinks Rafa is one of the best managers in the world.

This is what he said as reported in the Mail:

“The best managers are the ones that try to bring out the confidence.”

“They try and help the player, they are friendly with him when he’s bad, or good.” “They try to communicate with their player.”

“And it’s very important for a player, when things are not going well and the coach is at least trying to speak with him. I think that is one of the biggest differences in top coaches.”

“Yeah, we have a group chat.” “I always send them a “good luck” message, and they do the same.” “So of course I’ll congratulate them for the win.”

‘They understand what going to the AFCON means to us.” “The African Cup is one of the biggest tournaments in the world, so they are happy to let me go.”

‘We have a lot of players, a big squad, we have Mohamed Diame who left, as well as Chancel Mbemba, plus me.”

“But still they are winning, so you can see the kind of squad that we have, and the kind of manager that we have.”

Christian seems to love things at Newcastle and he’s a popular with the Geordie fans.

Newcastle are back on top of the Championship and we are now 9 points ahead of 3rd placed Huddersfield Town after yesterday’s 4-0 win at home to Rotherham in one of automatic promotion spots.

Brighton play their game in hand on Tuesday night at home to Cardiff City and will go back on top with a win.

I thought it was a canny atmos at the game yesterday, great singing in the corner of the Gallowgate I’m at. Jail for Ashley’s seat is around the same area ish and he seems to be saying similar. Further into the Gallowgate centre and West don’t seem to catch the fire as easily. It went a little quieter for a period in the first half, I think that is understandably so as we were very flat and over doing Rafa’s game control thing for a time. We are getting there (crowd and team).
People watching tv / streams have an opposite opinion (noticed Andymac critical of the atmosphere), it’s hard to judge the crowd noise on there lads, lots depends on the sound set up obviously.

Do you think the fans get on their backs or simply that we just go quiet when theirs nothing to get excited about or both. Is someone shouting ffs man, sort your shit out when they send an easy pass ten foot high, twenty foot wide and fifty foot long really getting on their backs.

hope this guy stays. think he’d make a great squad player next year as he has done this year too. someone to definitely push the guys in the starting 11

wwsrb – in response to yesterday re Townsend

I think you whitewashed there a bit. clearly i stated my own personal grievances with townsend. not every player who leaves a club is a quitter.

Townsend on the other hand had a bad six months at tottenham (this was not due to form but, as aforementioned, a lack of professionalism on both parties part and failing to even try to bridge the divide).

he had his finest 6 months here and jumped ship at the first opportunity. to palace. really? yeah, i get your point about wanting to play at int’l level, but he was negotiating that deal (or any deal apparently) before the man who said he’d still be considered for england duty in the championship (Hodgson) had even left the national side.

and seriously, you make such proclamations about how important it is that you go and put yourself on show, turn a blind eye to the glaring adoration of the fans in newcastle, and then shirk at the first sign of hardship? the little kids clearly a prat who can’t be asked to fight through any sign or sort of adversity.

fair play someone else mentioned his effort last year, and i understand that can still stick closely to people’s thinking, but this was a rebuttal yours.

I really hope we don’t sign Townsend.
Nowt to do with his ability as a player.
He chose to leave and we spent 12 million replacing him with Ritchie.
Now HH the Palace manager clearly wants rid so he can bring in a player. Perhaps Defoe.
He’s been on TV smuggly saying we will only sell any player for top money.
    Why help that lot.
Lie down with dogs and you catch flies.

Absolutely not on the team’s back at all! Little bit of a chunter is what most fans do involuntarily when you’re willing your team on and something goes off. Totally normal when you’re into a game, fully invested in it.
40 odd thousand fans giving an ‘argghhh’ all at once doesn’t constitute an offence, it’s just a live reaction.

    Re Townsend
Don’t feel well enough informed to know what went on, but we sold many of the players that people wanted to buy at that time, – IF Raffa wants him back that’s good enough for me.

I was listening to radio Newcastle heading home after the match yesterday. Comedy classic phone in with Ando and that makem plank ‘Benno’. Some unwashed fan rang in saying they should sack Moyes and get Roy Hodgson in!!! Like the former England manager will fancy that now.
    Ahahahaha! Unbelievable..

A loan deal we pay his wages until the end of the season.
    I’d go with that.
3 million loan fee on top ? That would be 200 grand a week for the package.
12 million to buy him back no thanks.
You never give a bum an even break.
Especially not that gum chewing HH.

I think Palace want rid of him by the way.
There must be better options surely.
