Newcastle In £25M Bid For Two Top European Teenagers

There are various reports in Croatia that Newcastle have bid for two top youngsters – Filip Benkovic and Ante Coric.

19 year-old Filip Benkovic is a 6ft 4ins center-back who has played 45 times for Dynamo Zagreb with two goals and Ante Coric is a 19 year-old attacking midfielder who has played 105 times for Dynamo Zagreb with 16 goals.

Coric already has two caps for the full Croatian side.

One report is in Sportske Novosti and Newcastle are said to have bid £25M for the two players, but the bid has been turned down by the top Croatian club.

These are probably the two youngsters the Chronicle mentioned last week that the club would be trying to sign before the end of the January transfer window.

Coric has been compared to Croatia’s star player Luka Modric, who Newcastle tried to sign in May, 2008 – before he finally ended up at Tottenham Hotspur and is now starring for Real Madrid.

The attacking midfielder is in big demand and he turned down a move to Liverpool only last summer and Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Manchester City are also interested in the player.

It will be very difficult for Newcastle to get these top top youngsters to Tyneside, but this is also exactly what we should be trying to do – get the word’s best players at around 19 years old into the club.

Rafa and his coaches can then hopefully make them into word-class players as they mature and play for Newcastle United – that would be the aim.

What do you think?

This is an Ashley style double swoop writ large, only remotely plausible to succeed because we have Rafa. Please God, make it so.

Tyne……Its seems like you’re softening your position on the acquisition of Townsend back to where he belongs under Rafa’s tutelage. Don’t be embarrassed about your U turn . It’s in the best interests of NUFC.

25 mill for couple of youngsters when we obviously can’t pay for Townsend’s permanent deal? Yeah, sure.
