Yeah big Murph my man o the match too. He’s done everything asked of him and more. Vital first goal, would have had one before that if Perez had squared it on the 6 yd line instead of going for goal himself from a very difficult angle. Only got 7 percent of the vote on our straw poll like..

Wouldn’t be a Monday if I didn’t complain about Karl Darlow.. After his mistake against Brentford for their goal, what in gods name was he doing against Rotherham. Admittedly he recovered and made the save after, but he owes Yedlin a debt for that. He seems to be dropping 1 howler per match at the moment. Not going to cost us really in this league, but i’ll be absolutely amazed if we go into our Premier league season with him as first choice

Hull are in talks to sign Markovic – that could potentially signal a transfer merry go round.

@lindisfarne – be an interesting line up with the African lads not back and tiote finally gone. Reckon Barlaser probably stands a chance of some minutes. He did ok against Birmingham! Findlay did very well too. (Best of the bunch).
Reckon Sels, Hanley and Lazaar are probably sure things, maybe colback , who knows for the rest… maybe we’ll have signed 2 players by then too…
Hate to say it, because we’ve been crying out for a cup run for years, but I completely get it if its not a priority this year, aslong as winning some thing is back on the agenda next year!

    From the Mag

Bolton Chairman Ken Anderson has published a statement on the club’s official website talking about a range of issues affecting the club, including the future of Sammy Ameobi.
From a Newcastle fan perspective, Anderson talks about it largely depending on whether ‘Newcastle do manage to bring in the players they are targeting’.
With Newcastle said to be in talks to bring back Andros Townsend, if he (or any other winger) was brought in then surely with Atsu, Ritchie and Gouffran also to call on, Sammy Ameobi would be allowed to go.
The Bolton Chairman also refers to an early return of Newcastle’s three players at the African Cup of Nations being a possible factor.

Jay, it was right under us. There was no cover in the middle really and what happened was he just kept sliding! He had to let it go or risk a red card. If Yedders hadn’t helped out he could’ve crossed it for a certain goal. Got to say though, the recovery was awesome. Whether it would’ve been red is obviously open to debate. In my opinion it should be a yellow, but with refs in this league is it really worth the gamble? I’d sooner concede with eleven than not with ten. Anyway, what a save. Top drawer.

    DISCUSSION

who should be sold should we get promoted?

I mean, if the likes of Dummett, Colback, Gouffran, Anita, Murphy, give us their all 100% every week even though they may not supposedly be “premier league quality” should they all be shipped out and move on come the summer? Do we not have to be careful about filtering out the “fighters” for supposedly “better quality” e.g last time we got promoted we sold the likes of Nolan Carroll Barton Simpson Guthrie Perch Routledge for more “better players” such as cabaye remy Ben arfa debuchy haidara mbiwa Marveaux obertan etc. And we all know how that turned out?

keeping Sammy if we can’t get anyone in still strengthens the squad! Can be a tricky impact player from the bench and was ripping league 1 up! Not sure hes got the lungs to play 90mins though

sing in the corner @2 – I’m pleased somebody agrees with me – I was beginning to think I watched a different game. I also couldn’t understand Shelvey being so high up in the poll because they were man marking him which reduced his effectiveness until the end when we were well on top.

I wonder if Murphy will play in the cup as there is 7 days before we play, however he may be saved for the midweek game after. Which also maybe a reason to rest Shelvey in order to not risk causing an injury from too much too soon? I am not sure if that is really a thing or just something for skivers!

We have not seen a lot of Haidara, but I would like to see more of Lazaar before him. Hanley did a good job and looked after Findlay well apparently, plus our regular pair of CD do need a rest. Yedlin should be fine and probably Colback will be used to continue his return to match sharpness, I did not know Tiote had already gone?

Barlazer definitely deserves another outing but I am not sure the younger winger does. The front four will be worth looking out for.

Interesting thoughts on Townsend – surprised at the suggestion that his goals will always outnumber his assists. Interesting – especially when this season he has scored 1 goal and has 3 assists recorded.

Interesting also the “denial” about him wanting to play on the right – when it is quite well documented in interview(s) with King Percy.

@mr tuff – his assists outweight his goals this season as pardew and allardyce have had him not playing his usual game and going on the outside and whipping balls in. No Coincidence his form has plummeted along with it!

From what I read, one of the biggest complaints Palace fans had about Townsend, was his refusal to hit the byline and deliver crosses. He should have a lot more assists with a guy like Benteke to aim for.

Townsend coming back would be great but it would still leave us short of cover for Shelvey, with big Sam’s tactics often bypassing creative midfielders how about going for a double whammy and trying to get Cabaye back as well, he would be perfect for what we need, constantly picking two from Cabaye, Shelvey and Hayden would surely be great for us, and Cabaye even after leaving us still speaks highly of us.

WW – did you not say you were not sure about him not wanting to play on the left .
If this was the case why did he ask King Percy if he could play on the right.

Using denial might have been a bit too strong – perhaps I could have used other words – but could not think of anything at the time.

Pro Townsend boys seen not able to throw into their arguments that ~Townsends poor form maybe, well just maybe, be down to him and not other people.

Ah no u misunderstood me I said it may not be as big of an issue as some where making out, am sure he’d want to play on the right but tbf he’d probably play there mostly rotating with Ritchie (who hasn’t been entirely brilliant there all season)

He played on the left for us last season and has featured there for Palace this one (Pardew promised him a starting spot so its not out of the question he told him that he’d be playing RW when starting which would explain why he took exception with starting on the left at Palace, Pardew loves a lie after all)

I could just as easily say anti Townsend boys seem not able to throw into their argument how well Townsend played under Rafa, same coin different side afterall he hasnt become a worse player in 6 months but he has worked under worse managers

It was great to see the reaction Sammy got from the crowd on Saturday. I know a lot of this is just fans enjoying the craic of singing the songs, but I hope it registered with Rafa. Like his brother, an underrated player, and one who could perform a similar role further down the squad. I think the link to Shola is one of the reasons he divides opinion so much, but it’s funny how the local lads seem to cop more abuse than anyone else. Shola, Sammy, Dummett, Colback and even young Armstrong all seem to be targets for the serial miserablists, here and elsewhere. That’s not to mention Andy Carroll — surely the best player to come out of the club since Gazza — yet routinely written off as a poor man’s Rob MacDonald whenever we were linked back with him. What is the cause of this bitterness I wonder?

By the way, what a header from Carroll on Saturday! Give me that over his fancy scissor kick any day of the week. Reminded me of my second favourite Newcastle goal ever — Shola’s unstoppable volley against Sunderland after Carroll’s header nearly snapped the crossbar. As Alan Partridge once said: “GOAL! And another GOAL!!!”

(My favourite will always be David Kelly’s half-volley against Portsmouth, from which everything we now take for granted sprung. I think I was up celebrating this goal half a second before anyone else in the ground; if the ball had continued it’s trajectory it would have hit me between the eyes…)

“Newcastle United have also shown an interest in Barrow, who has a £5million release clause in his contract at the Liberty Stadium and is seeking a move away from the club after being frozen out by Clement.”

I watched him in one match (only) and he was dire.

For me townsend is getting Wat he deserves simple as that
he went for more money instead of his career, listened to his agent and his bank manager more than 50000 fans singing his name and top top manager bringing the best out of him

I want players here that want to play here not mercenaries that townsend has proved he is

Spend the money on decent LW oh and a proper no10

Totally excluding the opinions pro and contra of fans who either like or dislike Townsend, or rate him or don’t rate him – there is a glaring question.

Where are all those other clubs/managers who are queuing up to secure his signature.
No-one/ no club has so far publicly revealed any interest. I wonder why that is.

Tuff…With regards to your last point – “lack of other interested parties” – Wasn’t that the case last January too? I take on board what you say, but it counted for nothing last time.

Surely the question marks are over his commitment and whether we can do better, not whether he could step up or why no other clubs are in for him?

No idea why others arent in for him, I haven’t followed every team in the PL closely enough to know whether wingers are what those clubs need, or in fact whether Palace would let him go to a club they are directly competing with directly

We could put the same question towards our team though, why hasn’t any clubs even looked at taking Shelvey? Hes our best player and without him we look ordinary, hes clearly a cut above the Championship but no one in the PL has looked at him? Of course maybe they have and the club said no so it never got any further than that but equally maybe Palace dismissed Townsend inquiries from other PL clubs out of hand
