Report – Newcastle Have Missed Out On Andros Townsend

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards – the former Journal reporter – is reporting tonight that Newcastle could well miss out this month on getting Andros Townsend in on loan with an option to buy the player in the summer.

Newcastle have been pursuing their former winger for over a week now, but it now looks like the deal may not be done this month after all.

If we cannot sign him this month it seems Rafa may try to resurrect the deal in the summer, but maybe Andros’ best chance for a Newcastle return was for the Tyneside club to get him in this month.

If we do get promoted this season there are other players we could well go after in the summer.

When first reported that Newcastle were again interested in signing Townsend after only he had been only seven months away at Crystal Palace it seemed even sensational.

But at least according to the Telegraph that’s now unlikely to happen.

What do you think?

The guy who is reporting the deal for Townsend is all about dead this month. Isn’t he from the same paper that stated we were in advanced negotiations yesterday

If Palace go down, Townsend may find himself stuck there. Crystal Palace would find it difficult to attract players in the Championship, and they would want to come back up at first attempt… meaning Townsend may have to stick it out. It would certainly be an interesting development, if that’s how it turned out.

I wonder if his idiot agent negotiated a 13M release cause in his new deal at Palace, I hope so as he’ll be play at the stadium of Plight next year.

It won’t be a disaster if Rafa can’t get anybody he wants this window. I’d rather save the money than buy another squad player just to say we’ve bought somebody. Rafa only wants certain players that he thinks can improve the first eleven from what I can gather, or younger players to develop. Those players are rarely available in January, so if we buy nobody it’s better than buying just for the sake of it.

    hi lads,back after a break.
stuff townsend, here for 5 minutes then decides to jump ship to the mighty crystal palace.
there was every chance palace would struggle this season, and we would be at the top of the championship,so townsends added to the ever growing list of players who now realise the grass isnt always greener, but i suppose cabaye already told him

    woodsee,
Ha ha, forgot about Cabaye, but to be honest got no bad feelings towards him, he was a part of the set up that brought players with his mentality in, “sign here and you’ll do alright” definitely not feeling sorry for him either though, I don’t think he’ll have to get shot of his weekend Ferrari when they drop down, he might not fancy Burton though giving Fat Sam a selection dilema.

The Guardian report, on Friday, about a possible Townsend transfer to NUFC, was written by Louise Taylor, a self confessed makem supporter.

Her report is shoddy journalism, her ‘facts’ are basically copy and paste from last week’s Moxley fairy tale. There is no direct quote from Ashley as to a change in transfer policy, in fact there was no public statement since Rafa’s appointment regarding transfer policy, other than that ‘ all football matters are the responsibility of the manager, Rafa’.

The transfer conversation on this blog revolved around certain ‘facts’, some real, many imagined, and some simply wrong.

    The true facts are small in Number;
Townsend had a release clause in his NUFC contract.
After relegation this release clause was triggered by Palace.
    Palace paid £13m for Townsend.
    End of story, (Not).

Mid January 2017, the transfer window has been open for two weeks, a newspaper(s) reports a possible transfer of Townsend back to NUFC. There was no specific comment by either club, nor has there been since, although both managers have held press meetings on almost a daily basis.

Since the initial ‘ breaking news’ many other ‘facts’ have come to light.
Palace are due to pay a scheduled installment.
Installments after triggering a release clause seemed unusual.
A loan fee for the rest of the season would be necessary.
Palace were trying to sell, not lone Townsend. Sam did say he didn’t favour loan deals, but didn’t specifically mention Townsend’s case.
There was a blight of ‘stories’ about Rafa/Ashley arguments, banter, policy changes, love-ins, etc.

So far there have no substantiated quotes from any of the real players, even the ‘breaking news’ that the transfer has died is unsubstantiated.

The fat controller is back. Money will not be spent this window….not even on loan so expect the well worn excuse to be rolled out again……we tried but just couldnt get them over the line

Shame if true.Townsend is a player we could definitely start with next season. We have Lascelles, Clark, Shelvey and Ritchie who you probably could say the same of, and a bunch of others who might step up. Gayle leading the line in the EPL, seems a stretch, for example, among other players like Yedlin, Mitro, Hayden, Perez. Hardly bankers, though you’d expect two or three to do well. At least we’d get a bit more of Sammy, who is good fun, and like Aarons has great capacity, if not achievement.

If we dont add to the squad and Shelvey is out again, we will again struggle imo, we looked like a mediocre play off type of team when he was out, he made the difference on saturday for sure, surely Rafa must see this, we have zero creativity in central midfield when Shelvey does not play, i have to say i have been impressed with Yedlin though.

Great reading the blog as the panic button gets pressed, “Oh no the Townsend deal is dead, we’ll never get promotion now.”

The thing is though, nobody knows what is going on behind closed doors, Newcastle always keep their cards close to the chest, and the let the rumour mill ramble on, until a firm bid is made for a player we just don’t know who Rafa is after.

Here’s another thing, the press tell lies, both home and abroad, agents also tell lies to try and engineer a move for their players while hiking up the price.

If anyone is coming in this month, we’ll find out when or if it happens.
