One Newcastle Player In Championship Team Of The Week

DeAndre Yedling had an excellent game for Newcastle on Saturday and had two assists in the 4-0 win over Rotherham plus an incredible tackle to prevent a Rotherham goal in the first half after Karl Darlow in goal has made a rare mistake.

Thought we could have had more than one in the team of the Week.

@wwsbrd – fair point, but signings or no signings can you really see this side missing out on promotion?
We have 10 home games left and 9 away games. If we only win 50% of our games that’ll put us into the mid 80’s points wise without taking into account any draws.
Traditionally, after January is when you see the sides with the bigger squads push on at this level as injuries and tiredness take their toll. We all know what nufc needs, put important to remember our squad is still the strongest in the league by a fair bit player for player. Don’t even think it’d be a gamble not signing anyone. Just think it’d mean promotion slightly faster if we do

Those polls on Townsend don’t mean a lot.
Supported the club since Supermac’s home debut.
In all that time the fans have always loved the idea of spending money.
If you said Little Jimmy Crankies for 10 million 90% would say yes.

    “Ancient
What’s worth more to the club staying the the PL when we signed Remy or getting promoted to the PL this summer?”

What has that got to do with Townsend being overpriced?

Getting an inform Remy for £2 million for a whole season vs An out of form Townsend for £3 million for half a season… I don’t think I really need to add to that.

Do you think we overpaid for Gayle, Ritchie, Hayden etc… because the club needed players to get promoted? If not, then why start now?

I think we will go up but it’s not certain. As for the waiting till the Summer we have Ritchie who can perform there Gouffran can’t and Atsu has struggled to break into our championship team…Townsend can perform there

Might even be better than Ritchie tbf

Rather than posting a bit of news then the cryptic “thoughts ? ” – you should read previous posts and dixcover the subject has been debated

    Jayfoto
makes an excellent point on the previous

Ask Liverpool fans – Rafa can be a ruthless bastard but also very loyal to players he has persuaded to join the club.

These are his signings and can feel relatively safe

    Matz Sels
    Dwight Gayle
    Matt Ritchie
    Jesus Gamez
    Yasin Ben El-Mhanni
    Stuart Findlay
    Isaac Hayden
    Grant Hanley
    Ciaran Clark
    Mohamed Diame
    DeAndre Yedlin
    Daryl Murphy
    Achraf Lazaar
    Christian Atsu

Add to them probably – Darlow and Lascelles – and everyone else has no guarantees.

We’re not really overpaying are we Ancient ? They bought him from us six months ago and we’re basically giving them a refund by the looks of it.

Well Hayden was a good deal and the others proved to be but that’s in hindsight had Gayle flopped we’d of certainly over paid for him same with Ritchie neither were bargains at the time

Tbh I don’t really care what we pay or wage cost I care how he does on the pitch first and foremost as am sure u do too

Most fans I talk to at the match want Andros back. I say most, I actually can’t think of one who said no but there will be. Doesn’t matter anyway, this is Rafa’s decision therefore all arguments for or against are moot. What it does show imo is that the majority back Rafa’s choices and don’t hold any grudges for the decision Townsend made. Fans do take things personally and I’ve been guilty as sin of it myself in the past, but in this case he made a decision that in theory should have improved his chances of playing for England. He would’ve had no chance staying with us and as hard as that is to stomach, it’s a fact. Unlike Scotland, both Ireland’s and Wales, England haven’t picked a second tier player since Jay Bothroyd, who came on as a sub in 2010 I think. Such things are rare though and not worth the gamble. Zaha got in the squad later, but I don’t think he played or he couldn’t have switched allegiance. He made a choice that backfired on him. Who hasn’t done that? Let’s wait and see how it goes, all this should he, shouldn’t he may also turn out to be moot. Personally I think he’ll get a great reception judging by those polls. And if he plays like he can and has for us in the past, all will be forgotten and forgiven anyway. We football fans have a reputation for being quickly swayed by a few good performances. 🙂
