Brighton & Hove Albion won their game in hand 1-0 over Cardiff City at home tonight and go back to the top of the Championship with 60 points from 27 games – 2 points above Newcastle.
The Brighton goal came fairly late – through Tomer Hemed after 75 minutes to seal the win against a good Cardiff City side who were the better side in the first half.
But Brighton came storming back in the second half and deserved the win.
Chris Hughton – Brighton win 1-0
Reading also won 1-0 against Fulham at home although Chris Martin missed a penalty for the visitors after 90 minutes.
With the win Reading regain 3rd spot above Huddersfield on goal difference with both clubs on 49 points.
Here’s the Championship table after tonight’s games.
[table “54” not found /]Newcastle retain a 9 point lead over the 3rd placed side – now Reading.

Comment #1Brighton result is what you would expect so not a surprise, although a 0-0 draw would have been useful.
They have two away games coming up at Huddersfield and Brentford so that may test their mettle.
In the meantime we just need to get on with winning our games.

Comment #2Anyone notice that Mbemba was deployed as a defensive mid in the DR Congo victory today? Shout out to the people suggesting that he should be tried out there. He got an assist too. Maybe something worth looking into. He always seemed decent on the ball enough to play there.

Comment #3Have to congratulate C. H he’s got Brighton working so hard every game.
Good luck.
Not so pleased about them knocking us off the top bit though !!

Comment #4Hughton is a proper and proven manager nowadays. Very thoughtful and correct in his behaviours. Serious in his attitude and tougher nowadays. More gravitas, which you might have felt was once a little lacking. I’d like to see him get a bigger job at a stable upper mid level epl club. Everton, West Ham or Southampton for example. Although you suspect any opportunity of top flight success he’s likely to get is with clubs he’s taken up, which of course is a tough brief.

Just 6 defeats in a year (53 games) for Brighton in all competitions.
Brighton are pretty incredible. Since the beginning of last season in the league they have lost 8 games (9 if u include the play off)

That’s super impressive. Would rather it was Brighton then any other club in this division to come up with us. 🙂

Comment #9Young mag…… I’ve thought for a while that Mbemba’s instincts tell him to run with the ball and beat his man. He’s quick and technically good so it would make sense to try him as a DM. He’s got to be better than ginger Jack.

Exactly, I have a lot more respect for them as a team. Especially since I still remember them kicking our asses in consecutive years in the cup lol. Be happy for them if they go up. Even more so for Chris Hughton.

How have you been? Hope all has been well for you.
On Mbemba, aye, he looks good enough to play in that role. He has the physicality, technical ability, height and pace to play there. Really think we should try him out there. He’s young also, good enough to be in our starting line up for sure.
