There are reports out of London that Chelsea are looking for a goalkeeper to replace backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and they are supposedly interested in signing Newcastle veteran goalkeeper Tim Krul, who has played 157 times in the Premier League for Newcastle.
Tim finds himself on loan at the moment, but unable to break into the Ajax first team since he recovered from his serious ACL knee injury.
Tim Krul – Newcastle goalkeeper
Chelsea’s number two goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will join Bournemouth this month on a straight transfer deal.
The Guardian is reporting manager Antonio Conte wants Tim as back-up to Thibaut Courtois, but we wonder if Tim would like the idea if sitting on the bench as backup to one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Krul is yet to play a first team game since he injured his knee 15 months ago playing for the Netherlands and Tim’s comeback has been difficult.
The Sun are reporting that Chelsea players want their manager to sign England International Joe Hart as backup to Courtois, but once again we would expect Joe wants to play first team football and he’s not one who likes sitting on the bench.
We’d be very surprised if Tim Krul moves to Chelsea, but the 8 times capped Netherlands International will have various options in the summer.
And Rob Elliot is also starting to get itchy feet, as he finds it difficult to get a game at Newcastle with Karl Darlow and Matz Sels ahead of him in the pecking order.
Rob Elliot – wants loan move
Ireland manager Martin O’Neill is unwilling to pick Elliot for the squad while he is not playing first team football.
Rob would like to go out on loan, but there’s no chance of that with Rafa Benitez wanting three goalkeepers fighting it out for the number one position at the club.
