Newcastle Signing Of Winger Is Imminent

Newcastle haven’t just moved into pole position to sign Modou Barrow from Swansea on loan, but it looks like the deal will be done soon and he will be announced in the next day or two.

The Chronicle (Mark Douglas) are reporting the deal is almost done.

We had reported last night there was news in the Telegraph that Newcastle had given up on trying to sign top target  Andros Townsend and that the club had moved onto other targets and that seems to have been an accurate report.

Mo Barrow – next Newcastle signing

We have seen Barrow a few times this season play for Swansea and he looks like a classy player with great speed and skill, but that final ball that make a winger great is not there yet.

But under Rafa Benitez we have seen a number of what looked like so-so signings turn out to be stellar signings, once Rafa has worked his magic on the player.

They include Ciaran Clark, Isaac Hayden and even Dwight Gayle who we were not impressed with – but maybe we were the only ones.

🙂

All three players have been great for us this season and they have turned into stellar signings by Rafa Benitez.

Barrow has a lot of class and we have to believe Rafa has seen something in this lad’s play that he can work on and make him into a much better footballer at Newcastle.

That’s the hope anyway.

The loan deal will come with an opportunity to make the deal permanent in the summer if Barrow does really well.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but according to the Chronicle he will be signed in the next day or two unless there are unforeseen events.

Comments welcome.

On Tom Lawrence, he’s been shown on Championship highlights and also FA Cup recently playing well. Certainly been as an attacking midfielder/No. 10. Big Mick McCarthy thinks he’d be out of Ipswich’s price range, so 1 million sounds low. Some Ipswich fans are rating him as their best ever loan signing.

Benitez did suggest there might be activity towards the end of the window.
However, with Sammy coming back, and the press speculation about left wingers I am now thinking there is going to be minimal changes to the team players.
I’m thinking that there will be no direct replacement for Gail -if he gets injured and the back up will be either Murphy or Mitro -who will need some decent crosses from which to flourish. Hence trying to get anybody, literally anybody who can play on the left – and on loan – so they can be binned if need be in the summer.
Then in the summer, assuming we go up – a better calibre of player can be purchased.

Big Mick reckons 2-3 million +20 grand per week wages. Contracted to 2018 at Leicester, on loan for season to Ipswich, but can be sold, not loaned/recalled in January.
