There’s a report in L’Equipe today that Newcastle are keen on 21 year-old Nicolas Pepe, the forward who plays at Lique 1 Angers in France.
Angers are second bottom of the league at the moment and since the player would cost us around £8M it’s difficult to see a deal being made this month, when Mike Ashley seems to have less money for Rafa to spend than we had all initially thought.

But as we mentioned yesterday, Newcastle will be setting up some deals they can then execute this summer and maybe this is one of those.
Pepe is a player who has been tracked by Graham Carr and we’ve been linked with him in the French press for a couple of months and he could become a real target this summer.
Nicholas was born in France of Ivory Coast parents and he has elected to play for the Ivory Coast and won his first cap a couple of months ago in a 0-0 friendly game against France.
L’Equipe reported earlier this month that Lyon were the favorites to sign him, but that a number of other clubs have also been watching him including Juventus, Lille, Monaco and Roma.
Everton and Liverpool are also reported today to be very interested in the player and could challenge Newcastle for him this month and/or in the summer.
Pepe is currently with the Ivory Coast squad at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Pepe is under contract until June 2019 and he joined Angers in 2013 from Poitiers FC; he’s made 19 appearances with 2 goals and one assist for his club this season.
He can play on either wing and has played 27 times in total for Angers after making his debut two years ago in November 2014 against Ajaccio.
Maybe he is one for the summer?
