There’s news coming out of London today that Crystal Palace are close to agreeing a deal for Norwich’ Irish winger Robbie Brady, but there is still competition from Burnley for the Irishman’s signature and they are still in the process of also trying to agree a deal with Norwich.
The Independent is reporting that Crystal Palace have agreed at least the structure of a deal, in which they would pay an initial £9M, with more money going to Norwich in the summer, should Palace survive in the Premier League this season.
Norwich had been holding out for £12M for Brady, but with the window having just 6 days to run, maybe they are keen to get some money in this month for their 31 times capped Irish International.
Andros Townsend scoring for Newcastle last season
One thing that may be in Burnley’s favor is that two of his Ireland International colleagues, Jeff Hendrick and Stephen Ward – are at Burnley and they are both urging him to sign for the Turf Moor club.
However, if Crystal Palace and Sam Allardyce do manage to strike a deal with Norwich and get Robbie Brady to Selhurst Park, then that could be potential good news for Newcastle.
Maybe Newcastle could finally negotiate a loan deal for Andros Townsend through the end of the season, since Andros will then be even further down the pecking order at the London club.
Palace would still prefer a straight transfer in January, but maybe a high loan fee of say £3M plus an extra payment of £7M in the summer could get the deal done for Newcastle?
That has to be the hope, with there also being problems of getting Swansea’s Modou Barrow to the club and in any case Townsend is Rafa’s first choice for a winger in this January transfer window.
Here’s hoping.

Comment #41Young Mag…… He’s doing what he was bought to do which is help with our promotion bid. He’ll be upgraded in the summer as he’s too slow to be a PL winger.

#nufc NO closer 2 transfer breakthrough. Townsend (currently) needed by #cpfc, while #Swans valuation of Barrow (currently) too high. #SSNHQ

Comment #43Phew…we can all go to bed this evening knowing we aren’t going to do a Leeds by buying too many PL players prematurely.
Maybe they can just drop the whole thing now. I don’t know about anyone else but the constant worry of plunging into debt keeps me up at night.
Sleep well, one and all.

Still think Ritchie could be converted into a 10. Has premier league quality but as you say his pace let’s him down. I think Rafa needs to adjust him further down the line.

Comment #50Young Mag…….. We’ve tried putting square pegs in round holes when Pardew was here. I think we’re better to cash him and use the money to buy a real creative no.10 that can beat defenders with pace and good dribbling skills. Another Beardsley’ll do.

To be fair I agree to an extent. If anything I think we should keep him. Even if he is just back up. Use the money from getting promoted to buy a creative number 10. I don’t think we spent £12 million on Ritchie to flog him once promoted. He also recently had an interview where he stated that the reason he joined was because of the size of the club and the huge potential that it holds. He said he wants to be a part of our future success, presuming this was offered to him in part of the deal that got him to sign. I doubt he’ll be sold to be honest.
