Newcastle Make Shock Bid For Brazilian Playmaker

Newcastle have reportedly made a bid to sign Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Appelt Pires, who joined Spanish club Leganes from Juventus last August having spent the previous season on loan there.

The 23 year-old has been impressive at Leganes and he helped the club get promoted to La Liga last season and they are currently placed 17th in the Spanish top league.

The news comes from Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio and he has put on both his Twitter account and his web-site that Newcastle have put in a formal bid for the player.

23 year-old playmaker Gabriel Appelt Pires

Gabriel has so far played 60 times for Leganes with 10 goals and 5 assists and here’s the tweet and article from Gianluca Di Marzio.

It basically says Newcastle Presents an offer for Appelt Pires.

Newcastle have made an offer for the 6ft 1ins tall midfielder and the Spanish club, bsed in Madrid,  are said to be considering it – so this is a big surprise, but we have to think that Rafa must rate this young player if the news is accurate.

Pires has scored two goals and one assist in 20 appearances for Leganes this season and his contract still has 30 months to run until June 2019.

Not sure what this says about Newcastle’s pursuit of Everton’s James McCarthy, but it could mean we are now turning to other targets at least for the January transfer window.

There’s no reason we couldn’t pursue both McCarthy and Townsend in the summer if we are back in the Premier League again.

Comments welcome.

Never heard of him but doesn’t sound like someone we would of waited so long to make a move for though unless I’ve missed something?

I know nothing about him, is he good enough for the premier league? We need players who are. We’ll need alot of rebuilding if we’re promoted as it is.

To be fair when it was clear after the Summer clear out that more striker options were needed no one thought of Gayle or Murphy.
    In Rafa we trust

I have a funny feeling Jib wrote that post in a certain way so someone would take the bait Mister Tuff. I may be wrong though.

He is technically correct, although there can only be extra time if Hull win 2-0 would have made more sense.

    Shirebrook

Have to admit that was the same thought that came into my head. Isn’t passing an integral part of the game.

Leganes are not a wealthy club so depending on the offer and the lad’s desire to move to England this could be a goer. Strange we’ve left it so late. Seems like he’s one from the bottom of the wish list.

Gotta figure no one in England wants to come to NUFC to sit behind Shelvey. So, look abroad for some potential at a struggling club.
In fact, with Shelvey doing well at this level, they would be looking for an upgrade on Hayden.
Whoever they get, blazing speed required.

I doubt a work permit would be a problem. Well I’m guessing cause he’s played in Italy and Spain it won’t.

I will believe it when I see us sign anyone. It was suggested a month or so ago that we had already played the teams that were averaging the top 11….The remaining games are teams averaging the top 17 of the league. It was something like that but it shows we ‘should’ be able to at least match our half way total. You know what I am getting at AND yes I know this is in theory not what actually happens.
I also believe we are all getting a little carried away thinking Ash will bankroll a transfer plunge if we do go up. He has obviously kept our 30 odd million profit for the next window, which is perfectly sensible ‘IF WE GET PROMOTED’…..
If not then he will have made another mistake.
Ah I have had a bad day and my glass is half empty today !
Just hoped we would have brought someone in to give us a little bit of help.

Pires and his brother were brought fom Brazil as youths by Juventus.

They most likely have Italian passports .

I know it’s hard to believe but Italian citizen requirements are much less stringent than in Northern Europe.

I’m glad we’ve held firm over townsend- palace need to sell him more than we need to buy him, and he’s not worth an outright purchase (in my opinion); I would happily take him on loan with a view to a buy (if he performs well), but why would we take the risk on him?

would be happy with this brazilian kid if he has been adequately scouted, but wonder if he’s more for the future?

Hull doing OK tonight. Playing some decent football. Have you phoned the commentator Jib? Either that or a strange coincidence that he should say ‘two nil being the only score that could result in this game going to penalties’! How much did that cost you? 🙂
I also see Hull allowed Manure to bring nearly five thousand fans, after only allowing us just under two and a half.
This Marco Silva has got Hull playing some very decent stuff, despite making seven changes to the team from the weekend. If manure don’t give their heads a shake they could be embarrassed here. Got plenty on the bench like.

be funny as f@@k watching them take a drop.
To me if Townsend wants to be here (really) then its him who needs to force the move through .
If he is happy to sit on the bench watching/ heading for another relegation , then it tells us all we need to know about him .
Starting to think it maybe is just about him and getting into the England squad after all.
Palace fans are pretty much going through what we did last year , spent huge at the start of this season had on paper what should be a very good side , but watched it all go to sh@t .
