Oxford Manager’s Glowing Assessment Of Rafa And Newcastle

Oxford United manager Michael Appleton is looking forward to the trip of Newcastle United on Saturday in the FA Cup 4th round and he says the team are good enough right now to compete in the top half of the Premier League.

Newcastle visit the  Kassam Stadium on Saturday in what could be a difficult tie for us and we will be giving the fringe players a chance to shine in that game as they in the 3rd round replay against Birmingham in the 3-1 win.

Oxford United manager Michael Appleton

Oxford are currently in 12th place in League One on 37 points from their 27 games so far.

This is what Appleton has told BBC Radio Oxford today:

“For me, if Newcastle were in the Premier League right now, they’d be a top-10 team,”

“They’ve got a fantastic manager, are a great club with a winning mentality and have fantastic support behind them.”

“We want to make sure we can compete with them on the day. If we’re in the game after 70 minutes, we need to give ourselves a great opportunity of creating an upset.”

“If we can, it will be one of those games people won’t forget for a long time.”

Although we don’t expect the tie to be an easy one, there is a decent chance we can make it through to the fifth round of the competition after reaching the quarter finals of the League Cup last year in Rafa’s first cup competition with Newcastle – not too bad a start.

Shay and Steve having an interesting conversation. You have to feel for Harper… He wanted to go out on loan but couldn’t do that either. Tough being number two.

Harper has De Gea as best. Given, named the Chelsea goalie, De Gea and Czech.

There can only be a penalty shoot-out tonight if Hull win the game in 90 minutes by a 2-0 scoreline.

    Hahahahaha.

    Jib Jibberish – @ 7 – hahahaha.
    Wrong!!! and Wrong!!! and Wrong!!!

Man you do not even know the rules of the competition.
So if Hull win 2 -0 on 90 minutes making the aggregate score 2- 2 its a penalty shoot out.
    Wrong!!! Wrong””” and Wrong””.

It is extra time. Here is the rule ya divvy.
    Rule 13.5
In the Semi-Final ties, if the aggregate score is level at the end of the second game an extra half-hour shall be played. If the aggregate scores are still level at the end of extra time the tie shall be decided by goals scored away from home counting twice. If the teams remain equal after this procedure the tie shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with the Laws of Association Football.

Worra plonka. Change your game man before you further embarrass yourself – ladies rugby or ladies wrestling suggested- you must know more about them -cos you are inept on the football front.

    The Chronic:

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has decisions to make for the FA Cup game at Oxford

Rafa Benitez is pondering whether to give Aleksandar Mitrovic a shot up front in the FA Cup clash with Oxford – as he looks to ensure Newcastle United have the strongest possible side for the crucial clash against QPR.
Benitez wants to win both games but has consistently argued that Championship promotion is key for Newcastle this season. In the previous round, he gambled by giving three players their debuts and Dan Barlaser, Stuart Findlay and Yasin Ben El-Mahni all played well enough to justify that faith.
Benitez [has to] balance the dual challenges of Cup and league [whilst] pondering a recall for Mitrovic, who has been back in training for a week and has shown no ill effects so far from the deep cut he suffered at Birmingham.
Benitez will recall Grant Hanley and also has a decision to make over goalkeeper Matz Sels, with Rob Elliot pressing hard for a recall. The Ireland goalkeeper has been linked with loan moves away and is desperate to make his comeback – but Benitez has shown loyalty to Sels in the Cups.
Last week Benitez confirmed Mitrovic would be in contention for the Cup game. “I’m quite optimistic. He is doing well. He has no stitches now, he can bend the knee. I’m quite positive. You see him walking now, he is fine,” he said. “For Mitro, next week is not too early for him. We will see. It’s not a massive injury.”

    Mr Tuff

don’t get too excited you just dropped a major bollock.

For example if Hull win by 3- 1 after 90 minutes and the score stays the same after extra time Manyoo go thru on away goals – hence no penalty shoot out hence as I said

There can only be a penalty shoot-out tonight if Hull win the game in 90 minutes by a 2-0 scoreline

Somebody else give this goon a slap on the head and an explanation.

It’s like trying to teach the remedial class

Jib Jibberish – poor attempt at wriggling. It is quite clear what you said and what you meant.

So a 2 -0 win by Hull making an aggregate score of 2 -2 results in a shoot out. No it doesn’t. It is 30 mins extra time – after extra time if one side has scored more (plus away goals on aggregate total) there will be NO penalty shoot out.

Have to give JIB some credit here as to what he actually said
There can only be a penalty shoot-out tonight if Hull win the game in 90 minutes by a 2-0 scoreline. He is obviously not referenced Extra Time. However he is correct that is the only scoreline that could take it to penalties in the Long Run. FACT

New at this posting malarky just I felt JIB was getting picked on a little for a Factual Comment !!!

He is technically correct, although there can only be extra time if Hull win 2-0 would have made more sense.
