Newcastle Have Decent Chance To Reach 5th Round

Newcastle’s fringe players did well against Birmingham City in the replay last week to reach the 4th round of the FA Cup and a similar team is likely to start the game at Oxford United tomorrow afternoon.

With two big Championship games coming up on Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon at home to QPR and Derby County respectively, Rafa Benitez will again be using his full squad for the games.

It will not be an easy game tomorrow, but we must have a decent chance of making it through to the 5th round for the first time for a long time.

Oxford play Bradford City on Tuesday night in the 3rd round of the EFL Trophy after the match was postponed earlier in the week with just 20 minutes to go to kick-off, because of a frozen pitch at the Kassam Stadium.

The weather tomorrow is a high of 47 degrees F in Oxford – so we should be OK.

Elliot’s been told by Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill that he has to be playing regularly to get selected.

Got some sympathy for him to be honest , he’s looked back to his old form with the reserves.

Rafa could loan him out , as Goalies can be recalled from a loan in an emergency.

We couldn’t get Darlow back when he was on loan at Forest a couple of years ago. We ended up with Alnwick in goal.

Darlow was a on a loan back straight after purchase and had never actually played for us.

I think Rafa sees more in Sels than the fans do

I guess it’s just that I like Elliot and would like him to have his last few seasons of glory with YBIG.

    Agree on that
Would be a lot more comfortable at Oxford with Elliott back .
As for sels he seems low on confidence , and when he only gets a run in a cup game it make any error magnified and he has to wait weeks pondering over it to get back out on the pitch.
To me sending him on loan and giving him regular football, don’t care if it’s Gateshead or whitely bay .at least if he is flapping its not ruining our season and could be just what he needs .

The programme with Shay Given and Steve Harper brought it hometo me.

Both lovely lads , good goalies , loyal servants of the Toon, but it’s bordering on criminal how much bench time Harps put in !
