Newcastle Still Want Premier League Playmaker

The Northern Echo are today reporting that Newcastle have made James McCarthy their number one target for this month and we’ve been linked with the Ireland International for quite some time now.

Newcastle are said to still be trying to do a loan deal for the 26 year-old before the transfer window slams shot at 11:00 pm on Tuesday night.

We have reported lately on Morgan Schneiderlin’s move to the Toffees making it even more difficult for McCarthy to get playing time at Goodison Park.

The other good news is that the Chronicle are reporting he is keen to join Newcastle and Rafa Benitez.

26 year-old James McCarthy – classy player

The deal would be a loan deal with an option to buy with Sunderland initially being interested in the player, but James did not reciprocate the interest and reportedly turning down the relegation strugglers.

Crystal Palace are the other team interested in getting McCarthy in, besides Newcastle, but they will also struggle against relegation this season.

With the news last night that Newcastle have bid for Gabriel Appelt Pires, it’s difficult to know if Rafa would bring both players in this month.

The report is that Gabriel would also come in on loan with an option to buy, so we suppose getting both McCarthy and Gabriel in would be decent business for Newcastle.

Rafa could make the deals permanent in the summer – if the players play well enough through the end of the season.

The Northern Echo report there are a few conditions they would need to get if Newcastle decide to sign Gabriel permanently from Leganes, but of course we would need to get the lad in on loan first in the next four days.

First things first.

We cannot see how getting Gabriel in on loan would be a problem to his club Leganes – although it’s true they are in a relegation fight in La Liga having just been promoted last season.

Newcastle are also trying to tie up a loan deal for Swansea winger Mo Barrow and that’s not dead yet either – although the deal to sign Townsend is dead in the water..

Maybe we will hear more from Rafa at his press conference coming up within half an hour, although he’s not going to give much away.

Irish man here. McCarthy is decent but he’s essentially another Colback. He is not creative and I would definitely not classify him as a playmaker. Would be a very underwhelming signing in my opinion.

Daragh, pity Judge is not fit still. Suffered a setback by all accounts. He would’ve done the job fine. Hope he recovers even if he doesn’t come here, as he’s a great little player.

since when has mccarthy ever been a playmaker?
slightly better version of colback and with little creativity or speed.

Mccarthy is a big upgrade on colback. He can at least pass forward. Just my humble opinion.
