This Could Be The Way Newcastle Sign Townsend This Month

George Caulkin of the Times has tweeted that Sam Allardyce has inquired about Newcastle’s 22 year-old center-back Chancel Mbemba, who is currently away with the DR Congo squad at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

At the same time Newcastle have inquired again about Andros Townsend as Rafa hinted  during his press conference earlier this afternoon, but he said there no new news on Andros.

Chancel Mbemba – on loan to Crystal Palace?

The loan deal for Mbemba is likely to be with an option or obligation to buy in the summer, so the deal will depend on whether Rafa still sees the former Anderlecht star defender as having a future at Newcastle.

Certainly Chancel has not played well in the last two games he’s started for Newcastle – both home defeats – against Wolves and Blackburn Rovers.

But if Rafa is willing to allow Chancel go on loan it’s then very likely that Sam Allardyce will agree to a loan for Townsend back to Newcastle.

Newcastle do have cover at center-back with Isaac Hayden and Paul Dummett being able to play there as well as Grant Hanley being only too willing to step in to replace regulars Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles.

And we were impressed with 21 year-old Stuart Findlay against Birmingham last week and we expect Stuart to start the game tomorrow against Oxford United.

It’s still possible Newcastle can get Townsend in this month.

Allardyce has spent £14million on Van Arnholt and another similar amount on someonelse.
Trying to get Mwemba in on loan is a poor attempt at negotiating to cover his overspend.
Looks like his goose is alteady cooked.

I would take the loan as i think it would benefit both parties. Mbemba has not cemented a place in the first team this season, And the same can be said for Townsend.
We desperately crave creativity in the squad, And if Townsend can produce anything like his form from last season then we would be on to a winner

This is probably Charnleys work – when a loan for Townsend has been rejected , he’s probably gone back with a list of players Rafa isn’t going to use this Spring.

Palace have shown no interest in M’bemba until now.

Lee will be on the fone to Gabon on Monday morning.

This actually makes sense to me, we aint using him, so get him up against Prem attacks this year, and we get more creativity this year. If Mbemba does ok at Palace then next year we have a player who can help keep your Costas and Surridges out, assuming theres no buying clauses. Still reckon that the story is speculation like.

Don’t see how this makes sense, any injury to the 2 cbs and we’ll be relying on kids to full the void or dummett.

Townsend isn’t creative, how many assists did he get for us last season? How often did he create chances? He constantly cuts inside and more often than not he finds row zehn with a shot.

Happy with the squad as it is with the only weakness being shelvey back up in case he does something daft

No way would a sanction tht deal ,, mbemba was a stand out player for us last year in a very average team.. Still young ,, centre backs come into there own mid to late twenties and I feel he is a unreal defender in the making,, fully expected him n lascelles to mop up easy in this league but hasn’t worked out but no way would a get rid ,, especially to a team in this country n especially to fat Sam

Rafa had an average rate of player signings at Liverpool and I really wonder what guys like Barrow will give us if he isn’t good enough for Swansea. Whilst we can’t seem to get ahead of Brighton despite having spent far more with a manager who has won silverware, I’m not sure Barrow and Mccarthy represent any kind of progress. What a sale we need in the summer

A loan deal with a recall option for Mbemba? Absolutely. Obligation to buy? No way. He is young and was one of our better players in a relegation season. He is 4th Choice at the moment but if it wasn’t for AFCON he would be playing in the cups. Was one of the best players at Anderlecht when we bought him.

First things first and with regard to the Queen-Trump arrangement. It’ll be ok- she’ll have had a few stiff drinks to prepare herself for him trying to negotiate a deal for the USA to ‘buy’ Balmoral for starters.

And…. Half a season under Allardyce would probably do Mbemba a power of good. But let’s hope that Charnley can negotiate a good deal – with sell on clauses built into it. For whatever reason, I’ve a feeling that the lad’ll become a very good player as he gets older.

Maybe Barrow’s one of Carr’s suggestions. Remember that Ashley’s keen on Carr having more input into recruiting young players at a price where a profit’s a possibility?

Townsend doesn’t quite fit that profile and Rafa reportedly wants him.

Rafa hasn’t given him many games this season but happens if Clark and laschelles get crocked and we have a perfectly good cb on loan at palace? The point in having a squad is to ensure we cover all eventualities.

As for townsend I didn’t sleep through last season when the lad was playing for his spot in the euros and playing very well to ensure he got a move if we went down. Maybe you’ve been sleeping on his entire career and living in the bubble of 3 months where he played really well.

You didn’t answer my question on chances he creates though, how often does he create chances and how many assists does he get?

Here’s what I’ve found, could be wrong though but proves he’s not creative. Townsend has played 34 league games for palace and the toon and got 3 assists, those are some compelling stats.

He’s a decent player who did well here, now he’s struggling to get into a palace side ahead of Zaha and Puncheon.

This season he’s had 40 shots and got 1 goal, with is he had 27 shots and got 4 goals. He’s had more shots than crosses creative he’s not.

On the plus side next year is a world cup year so he will have a good season trying to get into that squad and then he’ll drop off as he always does!!

Loan sounds like a plan. At 22 for a centre half he is doing well. Might have had couple of bad games but had a relatively good season for a young lad in a bad team. I reckon he will come good so nice to keep options open

Benitez signings are very mixed. Not many (if any) good signings under 5million and only a few young ones got a chance under him. A few expensive disasters too.

On the other hand he was one of the Best managers on earth while at liverpool so he could get the best out of what he had and so could afford to make a few mistakes. Also a lot of the cheaper young players he bought went on to have decent careers. Not many were total failures but neither were any huge succeses. I seem to remember the board taking the responsibility for young players away from him around the time they bought shelvey and sterling.

Barrow is 24 though, hardly a young un and he’s done nothing of note whilst at Swansea to get the fans excited about a possible arrival.

I personally hope we don’t get him as I feel apart from pace, he offers nothing else that is needed at this or the next level.

Townsend for me is 50/50. He did well enough last season in difficult circumstances but as people have said before, he had his own motivations (Euros).

A cm/am would be my priority if we are to spend but again, not essential. I feel we have enough to get promoted this season as it is and spending for the sake of it isn’t warranted.

The scouse fans I know tend to harp on about a few things re Rafa. Love him for winning the pot, average signings, defensive play, really annoying squad rotation, stubborn tactically. I can see why they made these references. I like Rafa, but more for the changes he has brought to the club than his ability on the pitch so to speak. I know I am being hard but I think he can do better. I have said this from early in his tenure when we were losing / drawing six pointers. Can u remember how cautious we were v makems at home? That’s Rafa at his worst IMO. His best? Probably Rotherham in some ways. A good win with control. If he doesn’t sign well we will have problems next season assuming we go up

Benitez has had the great advantage of having the massive resources of the club behind him, but you’d still have to say he has done a fantastic job of building a squad to take us up. We have unmatched depth and cover. He can pick any one of 24-6 players in their correct positions and if Shelvey is in the side we are most likely to win, and even if he isn’t we are still odds on to win home or away against 70% of this league.

Mooted players like Townsend, McCarthy and even Barrow would only further improve those odds and also of course be capable next year should we go up.
