Newcastle Now In The Lead To Sign Talented Midfielder

Newcastle are still going after both Andros Townsend and James McCarthy with just three full days left in this January transfer window and it’s possible we can sign both players before the deadline.

There’s a report in London that Newcastle are ahead in the race to sign 26 year-old  Everton midfielder James McCarthy, who is now thought to be more interested in joining Newcastle and helping with our promotion than joining Crystal Palace and helping Sam Allardyce perhaps save yet another club from relegation.

James McCarthy – 26 year-old Irish International midfielder

Rafa is hoping his pursuit of his top two targets does not go down to the wire and yesterday in his press conference he said it would be much better to get the players in before Tuesday.

We assume Managing Director Lee Charnley is working around the clock to try to get Andros and James through the door – and at this stage if Lee can manage that it would be a real coup.

While it’s got to be  unlikely given the late stage of the transfer window, clubs often don’t decide until they have looked at all their other options – so it’s still possible.

Rafa wants to improve the side in this transfer window although he admits he’s pleased with the squad he built last summer.

But as a manager Rafa says you are always looking to improve the side.

Mike Ashley – please take note.

James has been squeezed out of the Everton side ever since new manager Ronald Koeman joined last summer and he has made only nine appearances in all competitions this season.

But we’ve always thought James was pure class and under Rafa Benitez he could become a really top player for us with Rafa able to bring out the very best in the Glaswegian.

If Newcastle are going to sign players it will need to be done fairly quickly and it would now be a huge disappointment if we cannot get somebody in by Tuesday night.

Here’s hoping we can do it.

Is James McCarthy actually an attacking midfielder? I thought he was more on the defensive side?

    Mind the doors!

I wouldn’t be disappointed Ed. By the time we have any new players and get them bedded in, we”l have the AFCON players back and with the likes of Barlaser and Finlay stepping up I think we”l see the season and promotion out with ease.

Just do what ‘Frankie Goes To Hollywood’ suggests.

SKY are now running with the Yanic Wildschut story……Wigan have rejected two bids for Dutch striker Yanic Wildschut, according to Sky sources.

The bids, understood to be in the region of £4m, have come from fellow Sky Bet Championship sides Norwich City and Derby County.

Wildschut moved to Wigan for £1m in last year’s January window after a successful loan spell from Middlesbrough.

Don’t rate McCarthy and don’t think he’s the player we need , more a squad player than first choice.

Thoroughly enjoyable first half. 🙂 Liverpool being booed of the pitch is always nice to hear. Liverpool dominated first half but not had a shot on target. Wolves actually unlucky not to be further ahead. Still, 0-2 will suit them I reckon.
