Rafa – Tim Krul Is A Top-Class Goalkeeper

Tim Krul has had a bit of a nightmare time of it at Ajax this season, where he cannot seem to make the bench for the side never mind play a first team games for them.

The loan deal hasn’t worked out the way Tim or Newcastle wanted it to – which was to have Tim play a full season of competitive football as he attempts to fully recover from a serious ACL injury he picked up playing for his country.

And Rafa Benitez is clear that Tim needs to play games this season and he has basically put out a message to any club who would take Tim and play him for the rest of the season.

Tim Krul while playing for his country at the 2014 World Cup

This is what Rafa said yesterday about his Dutch International goalkeeper:

“Tim is a top-class keeper who needed some time because he has been injured.”

“He has been playing for the Ajax U21 team, so if someone is interested in a keeper then it’s always a name that people will look at.”

“We’ve had one club asking, but we weren’t very happy with the idea because it was not the right club.”

“But if someone is asking, then we have to consider it, because we sent him on loan with the idea for him to play.”

“It’s important for him to keep playing, or have his chance.”

Tim is being kept out of the Ajax side by 20 year-old Cameroon International Andre Onana, but if you don’t get games it’s difficult to prove you are back to your old form.

It’s a disaster for the 28 year-old at Ajax and it’s just a bit late to find a club for him where he could play – but not impossible.

We hope Tim can be fixed up at another club in the next three days.

What do you think?

I dont think its ever been this quiet during a transfer window, theres normally the optimists hoping for a Barnetta after Craig Coozy had him in the Jeasmond dene or the pessimists saying wel be lucky if we get oberton from Manure.
Eerily quiet, just as well we have bloggers with spoons to liven things up 😳

On the wash-up of the signing of Matz Sels, and the loaning of Tim Krul, you would have to give our Spanish mastermind 0/10. We are currently lumbered with one of the most incompetent keepers in upper echelons of English football, and Tim Krul is in limbo. What a sick joke.

    The overrated Frenchman

I always find when criticising a manager – the best way is through the reserve goalkeeper and a guy recovering fom an ACL.

    Talk about clutching at straws.

Is that the pitiful best you can do ?

Of course not Jib, that’s small fry. You’ll find my body of work critical of the Fat Spanish Waiter far more comprehensive. Why, just a couple of threads ago I was censorious of his handling of Mbemba, and as recently as the last one, I took him to task for failing to address the lack of cover for Shelvey. You need to do a bit more reading. If my thoughts on the deficiencies of your messiah disturb you, tell me when your chapter of Mensa meets. I’ll time my posts so you are occupied there and you won’t have to see them.

Back to today’s line-up. Personally I do NOT want Shelvey to be starting. We have 2 league games this coming week and he’s needed for both of those. If he gets tired or worse still clogged then we will miss him for the more important fixtures. If we can’t beat Oxford with our back-up squad then it’s a bit pathetic. I would play Mitro and Colback though.

You can only play the cards you are given and Rafas version of Happy Families and determined and narrow in scope. Keep asking for the same player and they will probably be coughed up.

In Krul we have a picture card but unfortunately he does not match our hand and may be discarded on route to winning the overall game. Mitrovic would appear to be a wild card that gains less points.

The hand of cards Rafa is playing is strong and capable of winning, even without any additions. The players gathered in the summer are generally proving to be the right ones for the task, any extras now would possibly be an improvement but only for the sake of a good opportunity.

Good shout on resting Shelvey, but conversely I would play Murphy and give Mitro 20 minutes at the end. Then depending on injuries the same for QPR, after that Gayle will potentially also become available.

I noticed yesterday Gayle was nowhere to be senen on those training fotos.
Keeping warm and getting ultrasound on his hammy probably.
I would have thought he would be back to light training by now.
If Gaylee is some time away Rafa may opt to protect Murphy and start Mitro.

    Lazaar—Perez—El Man

On the previous performance that side should be able to beat a third tier side, but it lacks the technique of Shelvey and Ritchie.

With the mackems signing Lescott, HippoHeed signing anyone he can and McBrolly’s hairdo and raging red face on the BBC, some still moan about Rafa not signing in a window in which there have been practically no signings in the PL or the Championship.
What a boring bunch, sounding like whinging, whining wearysiders! Give it a rest, moaning minnies, FFS!

I echo your sentiment about the Ivorian but while we have him , use him.

Btw two of the Spanish papers who confirmed that Cheick wasn’t going to Gijon mentioned that a Chinese club is back in for him – however I aint holding me breath !

When is the Chinese window open till, i think last year it was a few weeks longer than ours (or maybe that was Russias window)…… we may have him past our window if that is the case, not that it matters too much….
    Rafa bingo
    Sels (unfortunately)
    Gamez ,hanley, Findlay, haidara
    Colback, barlasser,
    El whatsit, Perez, Lazar

Should be enough to win, as long as they dont put crosses into our box

Ian Toon up to his old tricks?

‘Let’s keep this show on the road, we are in the top two of the Championship, well set for promotion, I am not interested in Welsh football, I don’t want any of their football rejects, all want is to “”keep on keeping on…””

    Ian Toon // Jan 28, 2017 at 7:42 AM

‘Jimmy- What a frightful vision! Uugh. I thought your vision of loveliness was something appealing and would be you recalling Jinky Jimmy weaving his magic in the toon midfield. “”Keep on keeping on.””‘

About McCarthy, we seem to have moved on from finding a possible replacement for Shelvey to seeking a possible replacement for his partner. McCarthy is a stand-in for Hayden or Colback. He’s not a playmaker..

maybe a better option would be to play Shelvey but

The Chinese league is doing exactly what we did here when the premier league begun, it started with the oldies coming for a final pay check but the quality increased year by year. Good luck to them if they continue attracting names to that league.

I have a lot of time for Rafa but little time for the rotation policy which has been widely praised here as keeping players on there toes. It can also have a reverse affect with players knowing they’ll not play consistently irrelevant of how they perform. Brighton don’t make many changes and Chelsea don’t make any changes both teams top of the league because continuity can build unbelievable momentum.

On today’s game I’d give it a right old go and win with a good side put out, we have a 3/4 game lead over 3rd spot and have bought ourselves time to get further in this cup!!

Aye, John Hurt was an actor who didn’t get the plaudits he deserved.

The Football authorities in China have an even bigger hurdle – the historical popularity of PL clubs in Asia .
