Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle and Crystal Palace are actively discussing a swap deal between Chancel Mbemba and Andros Townsend, with both players changing clubs on initial loan deals.
This had been reported a couple of days ago as what Palace manager Sam Allardyce wanted as he tries to strengthen the Palace defense with the impressive 22 year-old DR Congo International.
Andros Townsend while at Newcastle last season
Rafa Benitez is anxious to sign Andros Townsend – a player he got the best out of last season with the former Tottenham winger being in the best form of his career while wearing the famous back and white shirt of Newcastle.
Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle are looking at different ways they can get Townsend to Tyneside before Tuesday night and this seems one way of getting it done.
Chancel is due to play for DR Congo in the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ghana today.
The two deals would be loan deals with an option to buy in the summer – so if a deal is agreed then it says that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is willing to let the 22 year-old center-back we signed from Anderlecht a year ago leave the club this summer.
Chancel Mbemba – a popular player on Tyneside
Mbemba has found it difficult to get his place in the side this season with Ciaran Clark and captain Jamaal Lascelles the two starting central defenders, but Chancel is still very popular on Tyneside with the fans after performing very well for us last season.
There is also news today that Sunderland may have beaten Newcastle to one of our other targets – Modou Barlow of Swansea – but Andros Townsend was always the first choice as far as a winger is concerned.
We’d also like to see Newcastle somehow get James McCarthy in from Everton before Tuesday night.
