Newcastle Reported Close To Deal With Crystal Palace

Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle and Crystal Palace are actively discussing a swap deal between Chancel Mbemba and Andros Townsend, with both players changing clubs on initial loan deals.

This had been reported a couple of days ago as what Palace manager Sam Allardyce wanted as he tries to strengthen the Palace defense with the impressive 22 year-old DR Congo International.

Andros Townsend while at Newcastle last season

Rafa Benitez is anxious to sign Andros Townsend – a player he got the best out of last season with the former Tottenham winger being in the best form of his career while wearing the famous back and white shirt of Newcastle.

Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle are looking at different ways they can get Townsend to Tyneside before Tuesday night and this seems one way of getting it done.

Chancel is due to play for DR Congo in the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ghana today.

The two deals would be loan deals with an option to buy in the summer – so if a deal is agreed then it says that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is willing to let the 22 year-old center-back we signed from Anderlecht a year ago leave the club this summer.

Chancel Mbemba – a popular player on Tyneside

Mbemba has found it difficult to get his place in the side this season with Ciaran Clark and captain Jamaal Lascelles the two starting central defenders, but Chancel is still very popular on Tyneside with the fans after performing very well for us last season.

There is also news today that Sunderland may have beaten Newcastle to one of our other targets – Modou Barlow of Swansea – but Andros Townsend was always the first choice as far as a winger is concerned.

We’d also like to see Newcastle somehow get James McCarthy in from Everton before Tuesday night.

Somehow, someway.

As I already said, Mbemba will become a top EPL player once he irons out his Bramble moments.

He’s quick, can head a ball, strong, can tackle and pass.

By all means let him be part of a loan deal now but please do not sell him.

This no replay mentality sickens me too. At 1-0 down with the clock ticking on, that dogma gets into the players heads. As Mitrovic is about to take a pen to level the game and potentially set up a dreaded replay, is the thought running through his head, No replay. No replay.
I’m not saying he deliberately missed the pen however the no replay mantra may have had a negative psychological effect.

Toontaff – I have to assume that you’ve not been supporting Newcastle for very long if you think Mitro is worse than Albert Luque, Xisco, Stephane Guivarc’h, Andreas Anderson, Michael Bridges, Paul Robinson, Paul Dalglish or Shefki Kuqi. And those are just the ones off the top of my head. There’s been others. Too much negative hyperbole on here this weekend.

Good deal. We need more creativity. I rate mbemba but he blow his chance to stalk a claim for jersey. If your good enough..You’d be in the team. TownsAnd shown he can play well for us..It’s a no brainer.

I get that not all of us are Rafa fans, which is fair enough, but I have to ask those of you who’d like to see the back of him – who would you realistically replace him with? And no daft answers like ‘Conte’ or ‘Klopp’. I’m talking about managers who are currently available and willing to manage a club in the Championship. Looking forward to your replies, especially from ‘hitman’ who actually said yesterday ‘RAFA OOT’.

If this report has some truth in it, then I’d be happy if Mbemba were to go out on loan with an option to buy. He’d learn a lot from Allardyce but I’d prefer it if the loan deal included a provision that allows us not to sell or if not, that additional payments be made against any profit accrued by Palace were they to sell him on.

In any event, if the deal is a straight swap, that’d be good for us and suit Ashley – no money spent and a player off the payroll.

No doubt Palace’ll play hard ball but rather than drag discussions out, I’d like to see Charnley get Townsend in as early as possible thus allowing him to slot straight into the side quickly.

I want Townsend but I would hate to see Mbemba leave permanently. Will make the deal only if Palace don’t have the option to buy him.

There is no way Mitro was affected by the thought of a replay when taking that penalty. All he would have in his mind is scoring a goal and sometimes they are missed even by superstars let alone Mitro!

Don’t underestimate the impact of psychology on sport. Negativity can eat away in the subconscious and have a major impact on performance.

Cheers – done my head in yesterday listening to the crap defending couldn’t be bothered second half.
As far as I am concerned would of been a great opportunity to progress.

Because at the minute – know things can change but we are in one of the two prime positions for promotion with ‘Strongest Squad’ in the Championship.

And look at the excitement around the TOON the last time we reached the finals

Whoever is saying Rafa should go? Crazy people and if they’re criticising his buys what do they think of Gayle (now worth 25mil), Ritchie ( now 20 mil), Hayden (now 10mil) plus Atsu and Murphy? Others will shine when given more playing time. Oh and by the way we are ahead of Hoots 2009 points at this stage! Wake up moaners!

Don’t even think he got much stick when he lost us the game in injury time in the six pointer at Norwich.

I’d still rather he was third choice than Hanley though, but if it’s a straight swap for Townsend? Cheerio 🙂

Moonraker15- where in the hell did you get those valuations lol whoever is questioning Rafa is daft. We would be struggeling in the EFL mid table if it weren’t for him. Just hope he doesn’t sell Mbemba as he has huge potential and is only 22. Give em Hanley instead.

Mbemba with an assist for Congo.

Atsu winning the penalty for Ghana.

This Mbemba news could be good for us aslong as there is no option to buy. Give him some more experience in the premier league so that when we go up he’s up to speed.
