Questions Surround Mitrovic’ Future At Newcastle

The game at Oxford United yesterday wasn’t the first time Aleksandar Mitrovic has started a game for Newcastle and completely botched his chance to shine in front of Rafa Benitez.

If Mitro had taken his chances in that first half Newcastle could have won the game, but we didn’t and his penalty miss in the second half was more evidence the Serbian striker is wasting his opportunities at Newcastle.

His lack of playing time could have been a reason for his poor finishing, but missing four good opportunities in a game we lost 3-0 is not good.

Aleksandar Mitrovic – poor game yesterday
Here he is missing that second half penalty

We also have to remember after a so-so season last year in the Premier League this was supposed to be the season when Mitro could come good in the physical Championship – a league that is very suited to the Serbian’s physical strengths.

But it hasn’t happened and with Dwight Gayle now our number one striker, Daryl Murphy has come from nowhere since he got his chance in the game at Birmingham and has scored three goals in three games for us.

You have to remember that Mitrovic started the season as the number one striker although he missed the first four games for picking up that red card in the final game against Tottenham last season.

It’s hard to know,  but you have to think that Murphy would have scored from at least one of the three chances Mitro spurned in that first half.

Daryl will start the game on Wednesday night against QPR in a game we have to win to keep on track for promotion.

But the fans are not happy with the pathetic second half yesterday and heaven help us if we don’t play well against QPR, with the crowd maybe becoming nervous and that being passed onto the players.

We’re out of the FA Cup and we deserve to be, given that lackluster second half performance yesterday, but we will field almost an entirely different side on Wednesday night and what we need is a good win to get things back on track.

As for Mitrovic, he must have a lot of work to do this season to convince Rafa Benitez he has a future at the club.

What do you think?

According to various outlets, Wolves are in for Hanley.
The Magpies only signed the 25-year-old defender in the summer when he made a £5m move from Blackburn Rovers, but it’s a move that is yet to work out for both parties. Hanley has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team and hasn’t really played a part as Newcastle aim to get promoted back to the Premier League having only made one start for them in the Sky Bet Championship this season.
This has attracted the interest of Wolves whose manager Paul Lambert knows Hanley well. He managed the Scotland international during his short spell as the Blackburn head coach at the end of last season and came away impressed with the player. And much like he is trying to do with Ben Marshall, he is now trying to reunite himself with a player he admires at his new team Wolves.
With Newcastle spending a lot of money on Hanley though, they may not be selling him permanently just yet. At the moment the current approach would simply see Hanley move to Molineux on loan until the end of the season, though it is expected that there will be clause that would allow Wolves to buy him at the end of the deal for a certain fee. But for now, Wolves are just going to try and improve their squad by signing a highly rated defender who is struggling for first team action at the moment.

our squad is fine stabil it could be better but cmon lets not panic yet. all season this squad and whith benitez reputation and all this talk about rotation i have not seen too much of that. it has been the same players for most of the games playing because we been doing well.
thats why i think many players simply hasnt come up 2 gear yet sitting on the bench is not exactly the same as playing. i feel like you can defend most players excebt selz who been awfull. and i think the club should back benitez and give him what ever he want . as long as we go up.
then next season will be interesting i will like to see how far benitez can take us.

“but missing four good opportunities in a game we lost 3-0 is not good.”

He missed 1 out of 3 efforts on goal. He lost his footing due to rain before the match for his first opportunity, which doesn’t count as an effort on goal. Mitrovic has a shot on target to the bottom corner, and his penalty was on target – the only attempt he missed was a cut-back when he was wrong-footed.

    Talk about a over-reaction.

I wouldn’t have thought an experienced coach would have used yesterday’s game as the final assessment of a player.

Mitro is still young and has bags of potential and needs to be loaned out next season.

We can’t fault his passion for his and our favourite club but when has a target man worked out for Rafa? Check his strikers with other clubs and you will notice a lot of pacey strikers Rafa would rather work with.

I wonder if Ed watched his own highlights vid because I cannot find a miss made by Mitrovic. If anybody spots it… let me know where it is.

Newcastle are pushing hard for Andros Townsend. We understand they’re exploring a loan-swap involving Chancel Mbemba going to C.Palace.

If hanley goes then we can’t afford to let mbemba go too and I think I’d prefer to keep mbemba.

There’s probably been questions over his future all season. I doubt yesterdays game changed or decided anything. I’ve suspected all season that he would be moved on in the near future. Looking like the summer now if they can find a buyer.

We understand Middlesbrough have inquired about Fulham’s Tom Cairney, but have been told he’s not for sale.

Mitro should have 20 goals Welsh in 8 games!!?

In the one passage motd showed yesterday it showed him with very good link up play plus a great run that won the penalty
how about judging him after a run of games when he’s match fit for a start

To be fair rafa has bent over backwards to compliment Mitro on his efforts yesterday.
To blow chances you have to be there in the first place.

Mitro was out for weeks, Rafa complimented him for his efforts. No botching mentioned.

If anyone watched the game, your contribution to this will be appreciated.

As far as I’m concerned, mitro is still our CF. He’ll come good. If he’s given a big chance, eg. like Obertan, and he botches it, then OK.

Rafa will argue that he’s part of the Hierarchy, I would think. He’s not a zero hours lowly employee he’s the ninth best paid manager in the world.

We can’t have it all: if no signings are made, it’s the Hierarchy. If signings are made, it’s Rafa. How do They get to win.

That’s 3 extra unnecessary games plus maybe replays in a crowded fixture list .
Just to get beaten later by a PL side .

    Mike Williamson Portsmouth
    Fitz Hall QPR Loan
    Patrick Van Aanholt Chelsea Loan
    Leon Best Coventry City
Jóan Símun Edmundsson B68 (Faroe Islands)

These are the Winter signings of Hoots in our relegation season.

Although how much input he actually had is open to debate
