Two Days To Go – Two Players Needed – Money To Spend?

In the first 29 days of this transfer window Newcastle have not been successful in getting any players in – not even development players – and now we have just over two days to go in the window.

Rafa wants two more players brought in – a playmaker and a winger – and it’s quite obvious he wants Everton’s James McCarthy and Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend as his first choice.

There was some news last night in the Mail that there had been movement on McCarthy, with a report in the Mail that we have offered Everton £16M for McCarthy, but it had been turned down.

Rafa Benitez and Andros Townsend

That may mean Newcastle were holding out for a loan deal, but are now willing to pay out money late in the transfer window – if that’s what’s necessary to get the players in.

That would make sense when you think promotion is worth at least £150M a season to us if we can return to the Premier League.

Not sure if the Mail report is accurate and Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright has said McCarthy is not available.

If Newcastle have money to spend they could also bid for Andros Townsend and Palace would sell for the £13M they paid Newcastle for him last June.

When you think we have 19 league games to go,  then getting these two players would certainly help our promotion push and they are players who can perform for us in the Premier League.

Far better make sure now and not regret it in May if we miss out because we get injuries to Jonjo Shelvey and other vital players.

That’s the exact type of potential situation Rafa is trying to guard against and Mike Ashley should back him and trust his manager.

Rafa knows what he’s doing in football.

We really need to go all out to try to get both McCarthy and Townsend through the door before Tuesday night when the window slams shut at 11:00 pm.

‘Having gashed his leg in the Third Round tie away at St. Andrews, Aleksandar Mitrovic returned to lead the attack and contrived to waste three reasonable opportunities from inside the box before half time.’
‘Referee David Coote awarded a penalty that the Serbian took – after conferring with Achraf Lazaar – only to place it too close to Eastwood and see the ‘keeper making a successful diving block.’
‘……while the Serbian liability may just have brought down his own curtain.’
Seems agree that Mitro is not the answer!

Each club sets out its priorities and plan towards that. In the last few years we have shown faulty reasoning and bad planning throughout the club. I believe we are improving in this area under Rafa.
It’s clear that in our current position we decided the FA cup this year is nothing but a ‘free hit’, hence we used the squad. The right decision in my opinion.
We have bigger fish to fry. Rafa’s team yesterday was a case of risk management. We’re out, unfortunately.
Concentrate on the league, get promoted and go again.
Some of the players we picked did well in the last round and deserved a chance. Fans would have been apoplectic if Shelvey or other vital players had played and got crocked.
    Onwards to Wednesday..
    Howay the lads!

This is all beginning to sound like the KK saga where Benitez says I want him and him and charnley puts in a derisory bid and tells Benitez they are wanting stupid money.

I don’t think 1800 fans who have worked hard and travelled to watch there club play in a cup match will quite see it that way, That yesterday doesn’t matter cos the Championship is the priority.
I’m fully behind Rafa in his quest to get us back into the Pl.But if that’s the best we can offer below the first team.. then next season we’re in for a hard time.

I was there jazzy mate and it is fine. He played those he thought deserved the chance and could do the job, they didn’t.
Getting to the next stage of the FA cup would have been great but it’s not worth risking some of our top lads in doing so. I fully believe back in the top flight The club will be happy to have more of a go at it.

As an Aussie great to see Good playing a first team game. He wasn’t a star out there but was one of the more consistent lads out there particularly in defending a 2 on 1 situation which could have made our defeat worse. Hope to see him make the bench a few more times this season.
