Rafa Benitez is now willing to include Chancel Mbemba in a swap deal in order to get Andros Townsend in before the January transfer window closes tomorrow night, but we wonder just what chance there is now that we can get anybody through the door in the next 40 hours the transfer window is open?
If we cannot get anybody through the door it will have been a failed transfer window after the ultra successful transfer window in the summer and it leaves the Newcastle squad vulnerable to injuries and suspensions of top players like Dwight Gayle and especially Jonjo Shelvey.
Rafa Benitez – being let down by Newcastle Hierarchy?
It’s been noticeable that Rafa has seemed a bit frustrated over the last few days as he seems to realize we might not get anybody in.
But he has said Newcastle still have a job to do before tomorrow night, but he doesn’t know if it will be possible to get our targets in by then:
“We have to do our job before the deadline. We have our targets, but we don’t know if we can get them.”
The pathetic second half performance on Saturday against Oxford United showed how a number of our fringe players are simply not good enough and there will be a risk to our promotion drive if top players are injured during the run-in.
That’s exactly what Rafa is trying to guard against, but with Newcastle being second in the league and 6 points clear of third placed Reading with a game in hand, we wonder if the likes of Mike Ashley doesn’t want to spend money in January because of that.
It wouldn’t surprise us, but that doesn’t make Rafa happy, who wants to continually improve the side.
If we don’t get promoted this season it will be little short of another disaster and if we don’t get any good players in before tomorrow night then Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley will have failed Rafa Benitez in this window.
It’s as simple as that and it would not be good for a number of reasons.

With this enquiry about Aaron Mooy (which I believe is us ) I think Rafa may be thinking of playing him in a more advanced role as Perez looks not to be up to scratch.
He certainly won’t come to be second fiddle to Shelvey.
The thought of Shelvey Ritchie and Mooy togther is quite mouthwatering.
Unfortunately Guardiola rates him and sees him as back up to Fernandinho.
The one thing in our favour is his International aspirations. He’ll be guaranteed good exposure for the Soceroos playing in the PL with us.
His fee will be £15m minimum
Expect last minute flurries of activity in the trnasfer market

Seems there’s nothing like a defeat to bring a few loons up to the top of the pond.
Good result on Wednesday they will be back under the rocks.
A few here seem to have wiped the previous 8 years from memory .
Pretty sure it it wasn’t in middle of afcon and gayle wasn’t injured then we may have put out a stronger team .
But we could have played maybe 4 of our ” big ” players , picked up injuries and then got arsenal away in the next round and put our auto promotion spot at risk.
Start of the season most said the only thing that mattered was getting out of this league and despite the best efforts of sub standard referee’s,pathetic F.A doing its best to derail us , we are still in fact on target .
Ash your opinion but in my book Rafa is only just starting so say the shine is wearing off…? Struggle to understand your reasoning .

On Mooy i know him very well having watched him play for WSW and Melbourne Heart.
First of all, he us nothing like Fernandinho. The Beazilian appears for City as a holding midfielder whilst Mooy is an attacking creative player. He is more like Shelvey than anyone.
15 million might be a bit steep but he might be got for between 8 and 10 million

Comment #8Is this a fan blog or a click bate money making site? ‘No news is good news’ they used to say. Now it’s ‘no news, let’s make sum up – must include negative speculation to tap into the base instincts and fire that passion. Let’s get behind the team and sow the seeds of positivity with stories of fact and optimism.
