Rafa Benitez has just given his press conference today – deadline day for January transfers – and he says he is confident “Newcastle can do something good for the team.”
Next up for Newcastle are QPR tomorrow night at St. James’ Park and we are hoping we can win that game to get our Championship season back on track after the disaster at Oxford United on Saturday.
Anything but a win tomorrow night would not be good.
Rafa Benitez – just completed his press conference
Here are some of the initial comments Rafa has made on a variety of topics starting with the transfer status:
“We’re confident we can do something good for the team, but there is no news.”
“We did well in the first half at Oxford but did not take our chances.” “The main thing for me is I feel sorry for our fans.”
“It’s the Championship now and we want to win.” “QPR are doing better now, they have had some good results in their last few games.”
“My focus is on the next game. We were working really hard today to prepare for it.”
“QPR change systems and they are quite strong and difficult to break down.” “It will be a tough game for us.”

Comment #41Good to see Ba is coming back from his injury.
Kind of funny that for a guy with a supposed time bomb of a knee, he has never had a knee injury. When he has been hurt it has always been something else and completely not related. And supposedly we used his “bum knee” as reason for not giving him a proper contract.
Wouldn’t mind seeing him leading our line. Not that he would’ve dropped to the championship but if he was going anywhere on loan to get back up to full speed, I would prefer here than Besiktas.

Comment #43If we do get Townsend signed up and registered, I wonder whether Rafa’ll throw him straight in tomorrow night?

Comment #44I doubt Ashley is lining his pockets ( other than a vehicle for free advertising), he expects the club to balance its books and live within its means … sadly that means us being a mediocre club for years to come – to earn big money we have to be successful, to be successful means spending money

Comment #45Mindshaft is right, speculate to accumulate…..whether we will do it 3 windows in a row is the question?
If we do go up, the problem is offloading those who aeent good enough (of which there are a few) and getting good money for them ,then using that money to buy better players….i guess wel be buying players with short contracts and low buyout clauses again…..its worked in the past though, a few times….but the difference in cost for good pl players and average championship players is getting bigger.
