Reading Win – Now 3 Points Behind Newcastle

Reading beat Birmingham 1-0 away tonight and that’s three league wins in a row for the Royals as they move to only 3 points behind Newcastle but have now played two more games.

In other Championship games tonight Aston Villa lost 3-0 at Brentford so Steve Bruce is still finding things a little tough at Villa Park.

Sheffield Wednesday drew 2-2 at Bristol City and lost some ground and move out of the top six.

    Munster,
From previous, I’m with you on his tactical stubbornness, but I’ve tried to explain it to myself by looking forwards. We won’t be favourites week in week out if we get promoted. However, the lessons learned this season by training and playing to a more conservative style consistently will help us for next season when we do need to be more conservative.

I think Rafa has rightly judged that he can do this preparation for next season and still be more than confident about promotion. I agree with you, had we been more adventurous this year, we could be running away with the league, but then he has to change the entire ethos throughout the squad for next season when we aren’t a far better side. That may take time and may be far more difficult to do if it doesn’t click early, like when he took over last season.

I hope he is playing the long term game with his stubbornness on tactics, but another problem with Shelvey will see him have to adapt and change formation/philosophy.

Glad to see this blog is still making stories up. There is no rift between Rafa and the board. We’re in an excellent position in the league and yet this Blog as usual loves to slag off the club. We have two games in hand in Reading, are 3 points clear and have a +28 better goal difference. Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea all missed out on signing players not just Newcastle.
