Palace Ready To Do Deal With Newcastle For Townsend

Another report that Newcastle and Crystal Palace seem to have reached some agreement to allow Andros Townsend to rejoin Newcastle United today.

The Chronicle were reporting earlier today it may be a straight transfer for £13M with that fee coming out of the summer transfer allocation.

That makes sense because we would save £2M on the deal – but it would be straight transfer for Andros back to Newcastle.

Reunion pending for Rafa Benitez and Andros Townsend

The latest journalist to say the deal will happen is Pete Graves of Sky Sports and it’s his second tweet today that’s the important one.

There should be plenty of time to do the deal with eight hours still to go to the deadline at 11:00 pm.

Newcastle have already done one deal today with Cheick Tiote finally leaving on a two year deal to Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng.

Comments welcome.

Just hope he doesn’t bring his CP form with him, ‘IF’ this deal is completed.

Eight hours to to come an agreement with Palace, then even more tricky, come to agreement with a player who doesn’t want to be in the Championship… once those little details are ironed out, get him through a medical.

It’s going to be running very tight – if at all.

Pete Graves has been my favourite commentator of the Toon games. It would be good if he was still doing them.

Hopefully these signings get sorted. I’d have given Ravel Morrison a shot on loan as a number 10. As I’ve said before, little downside as we can just get rid, meteoric upside to his talents.

It seems Palace and Newcastle will be arguing over the price for Townsend long after the window has shut, In the red corner you have Palace, run by greedy idiots, and in the blue corner is Newcastle, run by tight fisted greedy idiots, it was always bound to be a recipe for disaster.

Maybe somebody should remind Penfold that the transfer window shuts at eleven!

I think they are still on about the Everton player mate, I think though that if a deal was going to be done, an agreement would have been reached by now.

Every NUFC fan is waiting for news, but I think we will all be disappointed, will be a sad blog tomorrow me thinks.

Same old same old NUFC in January window. Why does Cashley & Co always make matters so complicated & difficult in January window. Other clubs just do deals and move on. Latest odds on Townsend to move 1/6 & 7/2 to stay at Palace. Which looks most attractive to you. If One puts on £2M he stands to make £7M

I would never accept Townsend back but under Rafa though he showed good performances and can be played on both wings which Rafa tends to look out for in wingers.

But Andros would never have my respect atm not until his picks loyalty over money which will probably never happen,he’s a runner not a fighter!

I don’t think Rafa will walk now, but if he gets stabbed in the back now by Penfold and the Fat controller he will probably walk in the summer.

There was never going to be anyone else other than Townsend & they will prune the wage bill with Tiote & Krul going. Lack of ambition, lack of ambition!Every time we get a wealth of names mentioned but nowt ever happens.
    Sick of it.
    Now prove me wrong -please!

No Firebug he won’t go now but when the blame culture kicks in if HE doesn’t get us up then he will. Ashley & Co will dodge the bullet for the sake of £13M – well invested

True and not for the first time, lack of investment has been a big issue with us for many years.

However if NUFC (are) working on four deals you would have to think that would be two out (Tiote & Krul) and two in (McCarthy & Townsend) or at least that would be the hope.

I agree, we have enough (if Rafa stays) to win this league, without the need for rushed deals.

Never 100% sure, but I think Rafa will see this season out before making up his mind to move on.

If we get Townsend in now at £13m that should represent good business sense – assuming he lives up to his price tag!

Given there’s gonna be even more money slushing about the Prem next season, player prices will inevitably increase quite substantially.

I always thought players had to have a medical for insurance purposes, but according to Lee Ryder NUFC can opt out of a medical for Townsend to speed up any transfer.

Palace want to sign the kid from Liverpool, they are asking 20 million for him. I feel palace if they really want that kid would have to let someone go today. If 13 million covers this deal then they only have to pony up 7 million. Makes sense for palace to deal with Newcastle, actually thinking about it if I understand this then Newcastle do. Does that not mean we have the upper hand if the reports are true on Palace wanting that defender from Liverpool. I do hope after this window closes Newcastle sign two or three players and its a complete shock to the fans with players we actually have been linked with.

Don’t want to tempt fate, but I’d say the chances of Andros Townsend joining Newcastle today are better than 50-50. #nufc #cpfc

So that would be 51% – 49% then Miles

You could be right, I think the medical is not only so the club know they haven’t bought a pup, but also so they can get insurance on the player to cover medical costs should he get injured.
