Townsend Deal Is Off – It Seems Official – Shame On Newcastle

The Mirror is reporting that Townsend just arrived at Bournemouth and he is in the Crystal Palace squad for the game tonight against the Cherries, so there will be no deal to get him to Newcastle tonight.

The deal is off and we just hope that Rafa Benitez was not messed around by the Newcastle hierarchy with no players coming in this month.

Andros Townsend at Bournemouth tonight

Rafa has wanted Townsend for the last two weeks but the fact that not one player – not even a development player – was brought in  is not good and especially when Rafa has made it very clear he wanted to improve the first team squad.

We have to hope that Mike Ashley has not screwed things up (what – again?) by refusing to back Rafa Benitez in this transfer market.

When Rafa agreed to stay there were reported to be clauses in his Newcastle contract, which reflected a number of things – such as how much money he would get in the upcoming transfer windows, so we hope those agreements have been kept by the club.

But unless something dramatic happens in the next four hours – which is now extremely doubtful – Newcastle have managed to come up blank – no players in this month.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating and we brought not one single player in – nowt – zilch – so maybe Mike Ashley believes the squad is strong enough.

Shame on him if we are not promoted in May.

I’m still not sure why we couldn’t do the £13M straight transfer this month – Palace would have gone for that – but maybe Mike didn’t want to spend the money – after all we are second in the Championship – no need to improve the squad.

But we now have to get 100% behind Rafa and the team and hopefully we can win tomorrow  night against QPR, but it’s disturbing that other teams like Aston Villa and Leeds United – to name only two – have improved their squads considerably this month.

There’s nothing quite like standing still but Ashley has a habit of doing that – unfortunately – well unless we are in relegation trouble.

Comments welcome.

Deal Off? Rafa off? The players chosen tomorrow night are in for one hell of a night in front of their 52000 fans!

Would be a big disappointment for me if the window ended with nowt.

I still think an injury to Shelvey could put us up shit creek especially if it happens in the next run of fixtures after the Derby game.

    Good, didn’t want him.

We already have wingers. We need a someone to partner Hayden and Shelvey.

    Ian Toon,
Why don’t you post under you’re own name to hurl insults, is it because it doesn’t suit you’re intelectual journalist persona or is Jack Root too busy sorting the wheat from the chaff, maybe it’s because he’s too busy marauding the streets of Chiswick looking for some root and branch cafes to sip latte with Pushy Pardew?

Was there ever a deal on the table from Cashley & Co. Really don’t think so. I think it was Rafa really hoping he would get the backing he’s been “promised”

If Rafa really wanted him and Churnleys infamous haggling under orders from his boss scuppered the deal it doesn’t look good.

Don’t worry we’ve enough to get us out of this division . Been said along we’re going to walk this league. Don’t need back up for Gayle & Shelvey. We won’t get any injuries or suspensions. And we’ve already played Blackburn twice. Perhaps Holloway will just roll over tomorrow night after all they’ve nothing to play for safe in mid table & we beat them 6-0 at their place

As long as nobody key leaves last minute, we are still in good shape. I had hoped we would sign one or two, but I feel its more important to keep our players together. A back up to Shelvey would be handy, lets hope nothing happens to him between now and summer.

I have it on good authority that we sold Tiote for a bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup. Furthermore after 50 appearances we get a bag of prawn crackers.

It wasn’t Ashley or Charnleys fault we didn’t keep Townsend in Summer – it was Rafa’s.

Jail you were wrong about Stoke City as well. They beat Chelsea 2-1 to win the League cup in 1972. We lost to Man city in 1974.

I think you’ll find the fans tomorrow night will be behind the team. Cover for Shelvey wasn’t available. No one of that calibre was for sale. Townsend is out of form, which is why we wanted a loan. You don’t want to be stuck with a player who’s lost it on 80k a week. Or do you? I don’t.
The squad we have will get us up. Gayle can’t be far from fitness and the AFCON lads will be back sooner rather than later. Where’s the disaster? I don’t see it. You can’t buy what’s not for sale,so whining about not getting cover for Shelvey is moot. So nothing has changed. If this window hadn’t been there we’d be exactly where we are now. You want to look for reasons to cry, you’ll find them anyway. So failing to sign an out of form Townsend will cost us promotion? Do you realise how dumb that actually sounds?
We don’t know why it fell through yet. Let’s not jump to conclusions as per usual. Even so, not the end of the world. Unless Rafa walks, we’ll go up. He’s repeatedly said he has confidence in this squad. So do I. We’ll be there tomorrow to support the lads like we always do. A win for us and a draw for Brighton and we’re top again. This team will win tomorrow. How Huddersfield do remains to be seen. Nothing has changed ffs. Get behind the team and manager and put an out of form player out of your minds.
Going to watch football, this place is a joke.

Ha ha ha – anyone seen Berbatov in the Bigg market or even on the UK , just more hysteria.
Anyway Allardyce has got his revenge on Ashley – classless fool

If you’re a Newcastle United fan on social media this evening, you’ll know there’s a ridiculous amount of speculation in regards to Andros Townsend, as his potential return to St. James’ Park slowly looks like crumbling into dust.

As depressing as that might be, reports from Bulgaria at least provide a welcome distraction. Despite sounding absolutely ridiculous.

According to Bulgarian outlet Gong, Dimitar Berbatov has flown to Tyneside to complete ‘final negotiations’ with the Toon Army, a side he reportedly supported as a boy. The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving PAOK and was recently mooted for a potential move to St. James’ Park, though it really is hard to see.
