Newcastle drew tonight’s game at home to QPR after we had gone 1-0 up after 37 seconds through Jonjo Shelvey and 2-1 up, but it was a late own goal from Ciaran Clark that robbed is of the win we needed badly after Saturday’s horror show.
The mistake was a misunderstanding between Clark and goalkeeper Darlow but it’s 2 points dropped after Newcastle should have had this game won long before the end – but we didn’t.
Leeds United and Fulham both won tonight and gained 2 points on us and now we are only 4 points above Reading in 3rd place with a game in hand.
Jonjo Shelvey scores in first minute
This is not the result Newcastle needed tonight after a poor transfer window and out of the FA Cup in the previous game to a League One side.
After going ahead early on with a fabulous goal from Jonjo Shelvey, Connor Washington scored the equalizer just before half-time, but it was Matt Richie who put us back ahead after 54 minutes with a header.
And then QPR goalkeeper Smithies made some great saves as once again Newcastle were not able to kill off the game after we had enough chances to do it – and in the end we paid for that.
The late goal was a disaster for Newcastle and this is really hard to take because of the way we lost 2 points.
This will not help the mood on Tyneside but we really should have won this game – but we are starting to say that too much and it’s getting to be a little bit worrying as clubs lower down are starting to catch us.
This was a real sickener.
