Poll – Are You Satisfied With The January Transfer Window?

We couldn’t bring one player in during the January transfer window which slammed shut late last night.

Newcastle did do two outgoing deals yesterday.

Chick Tiote finally left the club on a two year deal to Chinese Super league club Shandong Luneng and Tim Krul got a new loan deal to AZ Alkmaar for the rest of the season.

Lee Charnley and Mike Ashley

Apart from that we did nothing.

If we never got Townsend (or anyone else for that matter) through the door because RB decided it wasn’t right then I’ve got. I concerns.
But if; as many of us suspect, it’s because Ashley declined his request then we could be looking for a new manager in the close season.

    Voted No and Win

No, because we needed a winger who can cross & an energetic midfielder who can drive play forward at minimum in order to keep up the promotion pace. By standing still we are actually moving slowly back on the conveyor belt imo as the other teams around us have improved their performance to keep up with us and Brighton, and have seen the sense in consolidation. We will need to experience a series of fortunate events in order to stay up at this level. Over to you now, Rafa.

For today though, I sense a heat-dissipating win.

Regardless of who we were after, or why it never worked out most of us agreed that we needed some cover in various position to help with our promotion bid. Even Rafa said or more than one occasion we need a couple of more players to give us balance and help us push on.

We never brought anyone in, and two left, (well Krul was already on loan anyway) so how on earth can this have been a good window?

Whats good about failing to strengthen the squad where it was needed.

I voted yes because I’m smart enough to know that bringing in players now could be a disaster and a waste of money.

You can’t guarantee the players we would of brought in were PL quality even Townsend would of been a mistake to bring back.

As I’ve said before we have a good rotation squad and with no cups left to compete we can focus of getting back up.

Answer yourself this would you be happy going into the PL with Championship players and spend all summer selling them for minor profits whilst struggling to get the funds back to get PL players?

Or rebuild with the money we’ve saved and bring in better PL players to improve our squad?

We’ve done that old Mike Ashley classic. Where we just wing it and hope disaster doesn’t strike.

Well the sun came up this morning which is good, although you can’t see it due to fog.
There’s a good photo doing the rounds of a well hacked off Townsend sitting behind Allardyce at last nights match so plenty of unrest at Palace going forward.

It looks like the clubs that were most involved in the transfer fest were those with relegation problems so are trying to buy safety.

Those in a position of strength and who know that they have a strong and capable squad just get on with the job – HWTL

    Absolutely not Ed.
Why ? Not because Townshend would have been the most wonderful addition to the squad, not because McCarthy was worth the reported 20 mill., but simply because Rafa clearly wanted additions to the squad to help with the promotion push and, very sensibly, as an insurance against injuries, suspensions etc. to key players.
The fact that we got no one has me worried that it is Ashley back to his old meddling, and that Rafa has been let down by our owner who has form on this going back over the years.
If this puts the seeds of doubt in Rafa’s mind that he won’t have the freedom to carry out his project at NUFC, and he calls it a day either soon or in the summer, then this will prove to have been a truly catastrophic transfer window.

Nezza there’s no guarantee we will be playing premier league football next season. There was nowt wrong with even signing a couple of good championship players to get us over the line. You would have no problem shifting a good championship player back to the championship next season.

Conor Hourihane from Barsnley for example – 2 million quid.

Basically no.We are short of another option in CM and on the wing(ideally a FB too).Had a chance to make a statement to the rest of the league but all our competitors have strengthened instead
If Rafa is onboard with the lack of activity then ok but if the board have let him down, then the seeds of a problem have been sewn
I think we are going to need a bit of help with a drop in form by some of the top 6,or wins away at Reading and Brighton

Just shows what people think of NUFC, they are not impressed with the club and the way iti run, Nufc have been a big dissapointment for years, the fact that there is a great fan base and we now have a good manager is still not enough to attract the best players.
Rafa did well in the summer with about 70 % of his purchases I would not have been dissapointed if some had been moved on.

Not happy, but am satisfied. Would rather sped the money in the summer, when it will be really needed, and now ashley has absolutely no excuse

we’re sitting neat in the promotion places; rafa wanted more balance, which I agree with, but I think that’s more to make it easier, rather than to make it possible. everyone in the world knows there’s no value in the january transfer window, so why buy big when it will likely have no net effect on whether we go up or not?

So if Crystal Palace stays up then we wont be getting Townsend .
And is Cashley really going to be investing 60-70 Million in new signings when he wont budge for 2 million in regards to Townsend me thinks no .
The writing is going to be on the wall for Rafa he will walk if another power house offers him a job and proper backing .

I believe the squad we have are strong enough to get us out of the Championship,if we had signed any players in this window they would have been championship players at best and not good enough for the Premiership.
I would stick with what we have and win promotion and use the money to sign proven Premiership players.
