After the game last night in which Newcastle simply threw away 2 points at the death by conceding an own goal, Rafa was questioned for the first time about the lack of activity in the transfer window last month.
Newcastle didn’t spend one penny and didn’t bring in one player last month.
Rafa Benitez and Ian Holloway last night
Rafa seemed irritated after the game and he had this to say when asked about the transfer window and the lack of incoming players:
“I can’t change things now. We knew what we needed and we knew what we have.”
‘I’m disappointed not to have signed anyone, but I have to concentrate on the players we have.”
“Yes I was disappointed we didn’t sign anybody and no – I don’t know what went wrong on Tuesday.”
It was a real disappointment last night and any more giveaways like this and we will be in danger of not being promoted in May.
If that happens and we hope it doesn’t, we cannot see Rafa staying at Newcastle for a second season down below, so we have to hope things can be turned around quickly.
We cannot keep throwing away points like we did last night – it’s simply not good enough.
And after the disasters of last season we still think anything can happen at Newcastle – and often does.
The bottom line is that come hell or high water we must be promoted this season.
