Rafa On Local Lad – He’s Been Great For Us

What Rafa demands from all his players is that they give 100% in training and 100% when they play for Newcastle – nothing less will do.

If players don’t want to do that, they will have short futures at Newcastle under Benitez.

Rafa admires players who work hard and one such example since he arrived is Yoan Gouffranm, who has been a  revelation for us this season as a regular starter on the left wing and he showed he’s not too bad up front either as a single striker.

Sammy Ameobi in action against Rotherham

Rafa has been extremely impressed with Sammy Ameobi – with his general positive attitude and his hard work on the training field.

This is what Rafa has said about the 23 year-old as reported in the Shields Gazette:

“Normally, when you prepare your squad, you have an idea.” “Look at Rolando Aarons. He had a cruciate ligament injury.”

“You have to fix that problem.”

“Sammy has been great for us, working hard in training since the first day, and when he goes on the pitch he gives you quality.”

“Sterry is also coming back and will increase competition.”

“You have to be sure to improve your players and make sure they give their best.”

So we expect Sammy to be used as an impact sub by the manager and he could get another run out today against Derby.

We’d also like to see Jamie Sterry get some playing time – whenever he’s played for the first team he has never let us down.

How Will Newcastle Fare Against Derby?

Ameobi has actually looked okay in the couple of games he came on as sub – don’t think he is Prem quality but can do a job for us in this league

When it comes to defenders it’s clear what Rafa likes – no frills – first and foremost a defender.

That’s why I think he may decide to work on a solid citizen like Curtis Good.

Unbelievably , although Curtis will have been here for 5 years in the Summer he will only be 24 next month.

Still plenty of time to carve out a great career at NUFC.

Derby are a good defensive side, generally playing with less possession and making the most of their scoring chances. Exactly the type of side that we most struggle against but with the added extra of having quality players in their side.

I hope training has been going well this week and they have been working on set pieces. Rafa should be working on attacking their full backs and either getting crosses in or corners. They will attempt to cut out all our attacks and turn the crowd, which will in turn make the players nervous.

Catching up on yesterday’s posts the overriding feeling is of the passion that exists amongst our fan base. What a shame that Mr Tuff feels the need to add his puerile list!
He surely is one of the most useless of bloggers. His public utterances are usually cringe making nonsense which appear far worse when coming from a senior. What a legacy!! Fans laughing at you and not with you. There’s also the question of hypocrisy, don’t do what I do, do what I say. SJP fans will surely be more aware that the primary aim of being a supporter is to support the team.

Derby had quite a spectacular December out of 6 league games they kept 5 clean sheets – no losses.

The wheels fell off slightly early January with a 3 – 0 coating off Norwich then a 1 – 0 loss to Leeds (both away)

They have recovered in the last 2 to beat Reading at home and then thumping Ipswich away 3 – 0 last Tuesday.

What did ‘confident Benitez’ (to quote you Ed) say about the Derby coach? That he’s a yes man, spineless and clueless (to quote us fans)?

Suddenly it don’t quite feel that way 😉

    Hey, game on TV 🙂

You’re playing both Sammy and Ameobi. That’s like 12 players.

Anyway, I’d play him too. Can he last 90′? Seems to tire.

It’s shit or bust for McClaren
He’s expected to lose so for him there’s nothing lost going all out for a win.
He knows our crowd better than most and will be aware how quiet they can be when their side is on the back foot.

Would like to see Sammy play.
Teams get tight to us all over the pitch.
Sammy would worry them as he can go past a player.
    Others can’t.
Does he lack the defensive side of things and tracking back.
Well possibly which is why Rafa will probably take Gouf as the safe option.
Thing is if you always take the safe option you tend to have no flare players, players that can go past a defender.
That makes the tactic teams adopt against us effective.
Going tight man for man. They know we have no one to hurt them.

As the dust settles on windowgate, for me ,its well done and well said Rafa.Showed his displeasure then said all the right things about unity and moving on
So different to all the spin, lies and platitudes that Pardew used to come out with after similar windows – trying to placate the fans and appear the tough guy whilst appeasing Ashley

Earlier in the season is would have been confident of a win against Darby, but since then our wheels have fallen off, our pace has dropped especially with Gayle injured. The pressure from the fans has grown and you can tell it’s affecting the players.
We’re supposed to have the best squad in the championship?I think we have very strong key players but when cirtain players are missing we soon become a average side.

    3-0 to us.

The bench:- Elliot Hanley Lazar Perez Sterry Mitrovic Barlazer. Although I wouldn’t be surprised to see Colback and Gayle coming back.

Anyone see the post press conference artucle in the independent where they blatantly left out the start of his quote “I will not leave, I will not quit” ?

Absolute confirmation of the tosh that people make up from spuriously reported and sourced information. Of course, people lap it up.

I, for one, really couldn’t give a monkeys about all the speculated forthcoming doomsdaysaying. This is match day, what will be will be. Nee need t’shout for nowt, just for the team. Howay!

Got to say im worried about today, for a few reasons
1, Poor home form, we sit 7th if it was just home games.
2, Team selections, im not sure what our formations are or who plays where, Goofy is actually our worst player, the only thing that hides this fact is his goals he scores, but hides in general play. i would play Lazzar or SHamy.
    3. Shteve coming back with a point to prove. It didnt work out for him here, but he has them playing well again

Raf really needs to send them out with firecrackers up their orifices and make sure they press Derby ALL of the game. That’s what will give Shelvey time to control the midfield.

Apparently Hughes is out injured so that’s a bonus for us.
