One Newcastle Player Makes Championship Team Of The Week

Our man of the Match DeAndre Yedlin is the only Newcastle player to make the Championship Team of the Week for last weekend’s games.

Yedlin made a critical stop when he headed off the line in those last few seconds of the game against Derby to preserve a vital win for the Magpies.

But notice that DeAndre easily had the highest rating.

See Yedlin has come out today and said that the team had been complacent and decided to get back to winning the ball higher up the pitch against Derby !

Keep it up boys as thats the level of intensity we should have every game we would walk the league if we can keep that up!

    @Essex

My thoughts exactly ! At least he didn’t trot out the “we have been playing well” line because we have struggled recently and its because we are giving teams too much respect and time on the ball

We keep hearing that we have the strongest team in the league by far, yet I don’t think I have seen any of these ‘championship teams of the week’ with more than two NUFC players in it.

i dont think we are the strongest might be the most skillful !!
what we have in skill over teams make up in guts and tenacity and the will to win which at times we’ve been lacking

He didn’t get best player of the weekend just for that save, as you insinuated in an earlier article, Ed. His overall play was excellent, not least that electric pace. I think we have good PL ‘material’ right there, reminds me of the Spurs guy.

Diame won praise by Rafa and fans for his dynamic play on Saturday and I agree. BUT, he shot weakly and recklessly a few times when he had excellent options (yes, the guy fans love AND hate), if only he had lifted his head. Definitely a work in progress, a diamond in the rough, even.

    RK,

That’s good stats, nicely put too.

Imagine if he’d said the same stats this way. “Almost half the times in the last ten leading teams at this stage have actually had more points than NUFC’s current haul” 😉

Also think if everyone in the team had Richie’s attitude we would be spanking teams every week! Love watching the effort he puts in and the way he wants to win, compared with imposters like Cabella and Thauvin who would just go missing after a challenge from the opposition full back

Way to go DeAndre! I think he’ll be one that stays with us should we go up. He has world class speed which can’t be coached. His weak areas are things that can be fixed with a good manager. He and Ritchie make a great combo on that right side as well.

The main problem is the awful home form. Crap teams like Wolves Sheff Wed and (for god’s sake) BLACKBURN put up the shutters kick anything wearing black and white constantly claim THEY were the victims to piss poor refereeing and the Newcastle team just fade away once they’re a goal down. Too many players hide. Shelvey cant do it himself. And allowing lesser players to actually ENJOY playing in front of 52,000 is also the fault of the fans. They weren’t this quiet in 2010

Douglas didn’t name the teams, but he also wrote:-
“Final reflection: the Reading team that broke Champ pts record had 72pts after 29 games. Phenomenal! That record surely unbeatable?”

Diame , hmmm he is a pickle for me, kind of like sissoko without all the moaning, full of running but achieves very little, he is not a team player. looks great in full flight but more often than not chooses wrong option.

Yedling was top class on saturday

As Mitro spent a lot of the game plodding around, looking disinterested,I watched Diame, Shelvey and Hayden and noticed they interchanged a lot, Hayden often further forward than Diame. Thought all 3 did well until Hayden went off

It must be time for me to call Mitro a dud, like I called Hanley earlier in the season! Hanley and Clark looked like a good pairing, Dummett played well, rock solid and a couple of good crosses, and Yedlin worked well with Ritchie.

I’m sick of people blaming the fans for the atmosphere, Mike Ashley carried out the equivalent of a frontal labotomy on SJP and it will take a little while to get back to how we were. I don’t think people realise how many people have chucked ST’s over the last eight years to be replaced by students, stag do’s and day trippers plus the non regulars with the lure of dirt cheap tickets in areas that would normally cost £50.

I’ve also noticed that Rafa’s biggest critics are those who don’t attend games or live in the region, why not make it your summer holiday this year and come back home to watch a game and see how much the crowd appreciate Rafs and what he’s done for us.

The atmosphere was great on Saturday, driven by the Gallowgate corner noisy throughout – the flags were back at the start, too.

It was still bouncing when we were under pressure near the end! Some noise and all standing in the Gallowgate, after the incident with their keeper and Perez.
Mind both linesmen missed seeing the ball out of play a couple of times and the ref was awful. Helps get the crowd going!

What are you suggesting jail? That they put the price up to 50 quid to watch Championship football? Not everyone can afford those prices even in the PL. Those prices are available to everyone, so your argument doesn’t make sense. All that would do is see attendances drop. It is down the the crowd. We made enough noise on Saturday, I fail to see why that can’t apply every week. I’ve got students near me, but they’re always there week in week out. They were there last season as well and the season before. Does that not make them fans? I can only go on what’s around me, but there’s three young men who were students here, but now are ST holders who travel up from the Midlands every game. Does it matter? It seems we make noise when we want to – like in support of Rafa – so I see no reason whatsoever we can’t do the same for the team every game. We always had the best fans in the country and the fact that we still get 52k in the Championship says we’re still pretty good imo. The amount of noise is down to each individual and nobody can deny it hasn’t been great this season. No idea why. None at all. It’s down to us to up the noise, nobosy else.
