Newcastle Summer Transfer Target Talks About His Future

Rafa Benitez wanted to get James McCarthy to Newcastle in January, but half way through the transfer window Mike Ashley seemed to change his mind about spending money last month and wanted to keep the powder dry for the summer, when hopefully we are back in the Premier League.

Rafa wasn’t too happy about that about-turn and let everybody know it – and we don’t think he will allow himself to be messed around by Ashley – as other managers have been – think Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer.

If Ashley has indeed backtracked on the promises he made to Rafa last May he could walk – but we don’t expect that to happen.

James McCarthy – happy enough at Everton

We expect the owner to back the manager big time in the summer and give him lots of money to spend to improve the squad.

James McCarthy has talked about his future and he had this to say to Sky Sports:

“The manager came out and said I’m not for sale and I’m part of his plans.” “I’m happy enough here.”

“I want to play games and I want to be involved as much as I can and I think that’s within the squad.”

“Every other player wants to play as much as they can and I’m no different.”

“Hopefully between now and the end of the season I can play as many games as I can.”

“It has been a bit of a stop-start season for me since the manager has come in.”

“I’ve been injured, so I need to try and stay fit and kick on from now until the end of the season and make sure I am causing the boss a headache.”

I’m happy enough doesn’t exactly strike us as somebody who would want to stay at Everton if a big Premier League club came in for him in the summer and offered him lots of playing time.

And that’s what we are hoping Newcastle will be and do in the summer when Rafa will need to improve our squad before next season.

But it will depend a lot on how much playing time through the end of the season James gets at Everton, as the player himself says.

But we expect Rafa to go after at least two of the players he wanted in January, but Mike Ashley failed to deliver on them.

They are James and Andros Townsend and if we can get those two signed early in the summer they would be excellent additions to our squad.

Mike Ashley changed his mind? Where is there any proof of that? Not a fan of Ashleys but that’s just wrong. Koeman came out and said he’s not for sale and after his performance on Saturday you can see why Everton wanted to keep him. Would be great if we can sign him in the summer though, I’m a big fan of his

    Welsh,
Just cause players have won stuff doesn’t make them a good option for a pundit. You don’t have to be the best player at the biggest clubs to have to have a greater understanding of the tactical nuances and an understanding of the game.

I’m not saying Prutton has, althoughI don’t have any issue with him, but picking players who won trophies doesn’t mean that you are picking good pundits.

On a separate note, delighted to see Clement getting manager of the month. Long may it continue for him.

McCarthy would be an ideal partner for Shelvey in midfield, he would be a great signing, but not at £20million. Although, if Ibe was £13million……

Looking forwards to tomorrows match. On TV over here, so I don’t have to make do with dodgy streams or radio commentary.

Managers have to be flexible at certain times and the good ones are. Rafa didn’t spit his dummy out over not signing Townsend. There’s a difference between being told you can’t have a player and having one signed who you didn’t want, which is what happened to KK.
Sometimes you have to accept things and I think Rafa has done until such time as Carr is getting players in over his head! I don’t think even Ashley is stupid enough to do that but stranger things have happened. One thing certain; he won’t want to pay Rafa £10 million compo for wrongful dismissal a’la KK!
