Difficult To Gauge If Rafa Interested In Arsenal Job

There have been lots of reports about what Rafa said at his press conference yesterday about the report linking him with the Arsenal manager job should Arsene Wenger decide not to take the two year option that’s on the table for him and finally leave the Gunners.

A number of fans want him out of there and maybe he will finally decide to leave Arsenal after he joined them in 1996 – and has had them in the top four in the Premier League in every single season since then – not too bad.

Rafa was asked about the report and he simply brushed it aside and in fact didn’t say much at all – either towards him wanting to join Arsenal or that he wanted to stay on Tyneside.

Rafa Benitez – Newcastle manager

There are supposed to be a short list of four managers – according to the Mirror’s Neil Moxley – with Thomas Tuchel of Borussia Dortmund the favorite.

Hans-Joachim Watzke is the CEO of the German club has today said in the Mirror the interest in his manager is stuff of fiction.

Maybe the original Mirror report was stuff of fiction?

Here’s what Rafa said yesterday about the Arsenal link:

“I’m the manager for playing against Norwich and then the next games.”

“That’s it, so I’m just focused on that.”

“As a manager you are used to have of clubs talking and the media talking so what you have to do is just concentrate on your job.”

Rafa often refuses to answer questions unrelated to the next game during his press conferences – and that was another example yesterday.

What he really thinks we don’t know, but it’s hard to believe he would get any more support from fans than he’s been getting at Newcastle over the last 11 months – and he’s said he likes it when the fans love him at a club – like at Liverpool for example.

Well – that’s true at Newcastle United now.

Comments welcome.

Personal note – I am having some additional medical tests done today in hospital and may not make it back before the team is announced for the game tonight – just a heads-up.

I think Wenger will probably stay on to be honest, but if Rafa was ever offered it I think he’d take it without much hesastation. (Sorry Jail)

I don’t think any manager outside the top six would turn it down. In fact there’s managers at top clubs around Europe who wouldn’t turn it down.

If Arsenal come for him. He’s gone.

A board that gives him freedom and patience. An elite European club. A great foundation to build on.

Arsenal really missed the boat with Pep. Rumours are that Arsenal were Pep’s first choice english club due to the football philosophy in place.

Worrying thing is that there are good managers out there but none that have the holistic appeal of Rafa.

He hasn’t just got us playing better football, he’s got the ability to overhaul a whole club’s systems.

Frank De Boer is available again. Wasnt he everyone’s first choice

Why are we worried about Rafa and Arsenal? This season is all that matters. Winning as many games as possible is all that matters. These reports that he is under consideration by Arsenal are designed to stir up and feed off the insecurity of the Newcastle fan base. And if he was offered the position should Wenger decide to retire and he accepts it, good for him. I will thank him for getting us back to the top flight and then we can go hire Tuchel or whichever top class candidates Arsenal didn’t hire. But I am not going to fret about losing Rafa to Arsenal now. I might fret about us hanging on to a nervy one goal lead in the dying minutes tonight, but not about Rafa’s future after the season is over.

I dont think Arsenal would suit Rafa, his defensive tactics and squad rotation wouldnt go down well with the fans.
They would be on his case within 6 months.

What is interesting about Rafa’s answer about Arsenal is what he didn’t say. He didn’t say anything about being under contract to NUFC and he aims to etc etc.

My gut tells me that all’s not as it should be behind the scenes and if indeed it’s true, Ashley’s reported intervention into Rafa’s transfer plans won’t have helped.

I have no problem over Carr being involved in transfers to some degree but if Rafa’s been promised total control over matters football – subject to finances and Chatnley’s agreement, then that should be reaffirmed.

If Ashley makes a mess of this appointment and Rafa decides he’s been let down abd moves on, we’ll never get another manager of his stature again.

Sorry, but if it comes to a choice between the failed Ashley-Carr model and Rafa, any sensible owner’d opt for Rafa any day.

My gut feeling is Rafa wants to be to us what Wenger is to Arsenal.

Why take over a crumbling former power, another man’s legacy, where if he got them back challenging he’d get luke warm praise from all quarters merely saying he’s got them back where they should be.

Think he much rather likes the idea of cracking the NUFC nut, making his own legacy and becoming a legend in the process.

He’s hopped between top clubs and won trophies and I get the impression he’s bored of it.

Then there’s the fact he loves working class football cities where the club is an extension of the community, Arsenal are far from that. Highest prices, artificial crowd noise played over speakers, tourist fans making up a relatively large proportion of the crowd, snobbish and PIERS MORGAN ASSOCIATED – YUK!

Wegner is like Fergie he wont leave on a low. He would want to win something before he leaves the place with a legacy. So easiest thing is for arsenal to win nothing and then there is no question.

Why have people got a downer on Piers Morgan? He’s an admirer of Trump and what better confirmation that he’s a schitt of the highest order. Arsenal fans’d make for a better atmosphere at the Emirates by venting their spleens at Morgan rather than trying to hound Wenger out of it!

Just seen a clip of Alex Neil trotting out the old crap about big spending NUFC ought to be running away with this league given the amount of cash splashed…

    FFS!

WE HAD £75M (+janmaat ‘undisclosed’) worth of 1st team players leave after relegation and spent some £30M ODD LESS THAN WE GOT IN on players to make up a squad.

Feckin Norwich…alright only spent £10.5M after they went down but the only player to leave them after relegation was Van Wolfswinkel for tuppence. So you could say they kept their Prem squad and spent relatively much more than we did!!!
