There’s a report in the Mail today that Newcastle are lining up 19 year-old Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke, who has played for all the England Youth sides and 3 times for the England U21 side, even though he doesn’t turn 20 until September.
His contract at Chelsea runs out at the end of June and it looks like he wants to leave Chelsea at that time.
There are a number of Premier League clubs said to be interested in signing Solanke including Newcastle, who are reported to be willing to offer the teenager wages of £35K/week to join them when we hope we are a Premier League clubs again.
Dominic Solanke – 19 year-old Chelsea striker
If we don’t get promoted this summer of course none of this will happen.
The other clubs interested in the teenager include Sunderland, Everton and Manchester City.
It seems as though his manager Antonio Conte thinks he could leave.
Conte said this when asked if he thought the youngster would leave the club in the summer:
“I think this is his will,” “This question is better to ask him.”
“I think for a young player to stay in a great team is a great opportunity.”
“We have to respect every decision” “Obviously I have spoken with him to try and understand his will.”
“I repeat we must respect every decision.”
“His contract expires in June. I wish for him and his family in the future. I am not sure.”
While Solanke usually plays as a striker he can also play on either wing and also as an attacking midfielder so he’s a versatile player too.
He joined Chelsea in 2004 as a six year-old and came through their Youth Academy so the London club would be due some compensation for the young player, who currently stands 6ft 1ins tall.
It would seem Solanke is exactly the type of top young player Newcastle want to sign so that Rafa Benitez and his coaching team can develop them into first team players for Newcastle in the future.
Dominic is certainly a top young England player – there’s no doubt about that.
