Massive Changes Planned At Newcastle – Could Dwarf Last Summer

Rafa Benitez competed the biggest overhaul of the Newcastle squad that had been accomplished in many years last summer, and the overhaul this summer if we are promoted could dwarf that one.

It will be important for Rafa that Newcastle do well back in the Premier League next season and he will want to bring in some top players, but he will also allow also allow players to leave.

And like last summer those players could fetch a good price in the transfer market and he will be allowed to use that money to further build the squad.

Rafa Benitez big changes planned this summer

We have just to see how many players are out on loan to see that most of them have no future at Newcastle and most will likely be jettisoned in the summer months.

Here’s the list of players currently out on loan.

Players on LoanLoan PeriodClub
Florian ThauvinSeasonMarseille
Siem de JongSeasonPSV
Kevin MbabuSeasonBSC Young Boys
Henri SaivetSeasonSt. Etienne
Tim Krulfrom JanuaryAZ Alkmaar
Adam ArmstrongSeasonBarnsley
Emmanuel RiviereSeasonCA Osasuna

Of those players only Adam Armstrong and maybe Siem de Jong and Tim Krul have a future at Newcastle.

Sammy Ameobi, Jamie Sterry and Harris Vuckic returned from loan in January and only Jamie seems to have a future at the club.

So there’s potentially six players who have no future at the club.

And then we have the current squad of 27 players that Rafa will want to trim after finally seeing Cheick Tiote leave the club last month for Beijing BG.

Players who have not made an impact like Massadio Haidara will definitely leave and maybe even Jesus Gamez and Daryl Murphy who are both over 30.

Curtis Good is  certain to leave having not made the progress Newcastle were hoping for.

He has had many injury problems for the last three years since he injured his hip in his only appearance for Australia back in March, 2014.

Yoan Gouffran and Vurnon Anita could also leave when their contracts run out this summer, but we’d be very surprised if Rafa doesn’t offer at least Anita a new deal.

If we are promoted we still think Mike Ashley will back Rafa with big transfer funds and Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez remain good friends and work together extremely well and seem to see eye to eye.

So here’s an incomplete list of  players who will leave the club this summer.

Florian Thauvin
Henri Saivet
Emmanuel Riviere
Curtis Good
Haris Vuckic
Sammy Ameobi
Massadio Haidara
Jesus Gamez

In addition Rafa could allow some of the big names to leave such as:

Siem de Jong
Tim Krul
Chancel Mbemba
Aleksandar Mitrovic

Rafa will want to build a Premier League squad this summer that can compete in the upper half of the league, whereas last summer he brought in players who could help us get us promoted from the Championship.

Rafa will be much more comfortable  this summer about which players he needs because he knows all about the Premier League whereas he knew very little about the Championship last summer.

A huge club like Newcastle United with 52,00 crowds in the second division and with world-class manager Rafa Benitez in charge will be an attractive proposition for many very good players this summer.

This is all still assuming we can be promoted this season.

I’d put a bit of a “hmm” on the big funds scenario. I have a feeling that Rafa will get the money from sales and no more. It’s Mike we are talking about.
