Mo Diame And Dwight Gayle Start For Newcastle

Manager Rafa Benitez has announced his team to take on Aston Villa in the Championship tonight and a win will see Newcastle go back to the top of the Championship table and both Mo Diame and Dwight Gayle return to the side and for a change we even got the team right.

That’s two changes from the starting eleven at Norwich with Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic moving to the bench for tonight’s crucial game against a side who are struggling in the Championship this season and have lost their last four games.

This is what Rafa has said about tonight’s game:

“I can understand why it is so difficult for them (Aston Villa) to do what everybody was expecting them to do.”

“We have also spent some money and we are doing well, but I can see how difficult it is to stay there and be consistent.”

“Our fans come to the stadium in numbers and support the team – it doesn’t matter the name of the other team.”

“But, we are talking about a very, very big club who have done really well in history. They have very good players and an experienced manager.”

“It will be a great atmosphere, and the fans will enjoy it if we win, because when you have a strong team in front of you, it is always even better.”

A massive 86% think we will this game tonight – so it will be a huge surprise and a big blow if we don’t win this game tonight.

Lacking a bit of cm depth on the bench. Thought Perez would’ve started and left Diame to come on.

Im gutted hes gone with ginger jack, this game is crying out for mbemba to give diame and shelvey more freedom higher up the pitch, especially at home.
Its a big drum im banging for mbemba , just cos i think hed be better than sideways jack

See the thing is, people will say “play the team that is most likely to win the game”, but for me I feel as if any team is more likely to win the game than Aston Villa, and at home I would’ve really liked to see a more positive and attacking team – Atsu for Gouffran, Diame for Colback, Perez for Diame, maybe even Lazaar for Dummett. Maybe I’m just not being responsible enough here.. Most important thing is obviously 3 points as always

I wonder what Lansbury has got up his sleeve for tonight’s game. Hopefully Lansbury’s theatrics will take the attention away from Shelvey, who can crack on with carving them up.

Feel bad for Mbemba. One bad game and can’t even get a look in now. Surely we needed him as cover for DM atleast? He can’t even make the bench like what’s up with that?

    Rafa team for tonight

    Darlow

    Yedlin—–Lascelles—–Clark—–Dummett

    Shelvey—–Colback

    Ritchie—–Diame—–Gouffran

    Gayle

I’ll go for a 2-0 Toon win, but if their head go down after we score it’s possible the flood gates will open.

Now I hope to get the second thing right….2-0 Toon!

YoungMagpie – I wonder if Rafa reviewed Mbemba’s games as a DM during AFCON? Hard to tell the quality of the opposition in that competition compared to the Championship. I’d still like to see him start as a DM though, maybe against a team from the bottom of the table, and at home. Important to make use of the full squad!

can always rely on you for well considered and balanced thought out statements.. . . .not!!

i think rafa obviously prefers hayden and has to play colback as a fill in.

of course if jc plays well tonight and scores / creates a goal then of course I’d be well pleased if he helps us win the game, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Trouble is you’re only ever thinking one good game or one good thing all the time, not whether he is consistently good enough.

Steve Clarke looks nice and cheerful!
Rotonda actually watch Wat he does its not hard he isn’t in the team to score goals or assist he’s there to stop other teams play and pass it to players who can score and assist

to constantly berate him for the opposite of his job is silly he does all the work that goes unnoticed and we have and shelvey has played better with him in the team

It’s games like these that we should win that I am afraid of. Really hope we pass the ball well and take our chances as these games were we are favourites have a tendency to kick us in the teeth. The lads need to be on the ball today.

Gayle completely absent so far, seems completely off the pace, needs to get it back together, and we’re late to every single challenge on the ball.
