Rafa’s Subdued Sky Sports Interview After 2-0 Win – Video

Newcastle players celebrate Yoan Gouffran goal after 42 minutes

Here’s Rafa Benitez press conference with Sky Sports after the 2-0 home win tonight against Aston Villa and it’s a very subdued Rafa after he has lost striker Dwight Gayle again with that hamstring injury after only 33 minutes.

That could be a huge blow to us although Aleksandar Mitrovic looks like, with more matches under his belt, he’s getting better.

I think Mitro really has his chance now. Suspension, injury, and Gayle’s form have hindered his progress thus far, but I think we are a better overall 11 when he plays, and he the better epl proposition. I like Gayle of course, and do think we should look at playing both, but I do prefer Mitrovic leading the line.

I thought mitro was very effective tonight, plenty of hustle and bustle from him, caused them problems and linked up well.

Yeah, I agree. We looked a different side when Mitro came on. As much as I love Gayle and was delighted to see him in the starting line up, he offered a much needed focal point.

When fit wouldn’t it be good to have both Gayle and mitro play upfront at home?

Throw caution to the wind and really go for the win rather than being content with controlling!!

I imagine Mitro will be straight out the team again when Gayle is back fit

Thought he was alright again tonight but he is what he is

Those flags were great tonight and the increase in scarves was great too. I don’t know why people don’t bring them and wave them like that every week, it looks brilliant.

I’m glad Colback and mitro showed Wat they actually do and get the plaudits for it they will both be back up to speed now hopefully after lengthy injuries and not playing

funny that lansbury looks like a total drunk hanging on to a lamp post after that goal! Karma indeed

    just in

Poor first half both teams were poor passes went astray no movement – creativity- actually the looked as if they lacked confidence.
First goal sloppy but it came as a great relief to all. second half there was only one team going to win.

    marks
Darlow 7 – did well great black second half to keep the score at 2-0
but rash charge out and dive at Hogans feet – sure ref was going to point to spot until seeing linesman flag for offside.
Dummett 9 – my Man of the Match defended like a trojan got in some great blocks and second half got forward a lot more.
Lascalles 6 – weak link in the defence – scored but very slow and ponderous on the ball looked as if he lacks confidence with what to do with the ball
Clark 7 – rock at the back played well and used the ball well.
Yedlin 7 – Another solid display but looked tired second half.
Goufran 6 – scored but little else backed out of numerous tackles tonight – not want we want to see
Colback 6 – poor first half second half a lot better and got/carried the ball forward. Mind you slow on the ball and gets caught in possession to often.
Shelvey 7 – Did OK but his radar was a tad off tonight with his long passes.
Ritchie 6 – Plenty of running but end product not the best.
Diame 6 – Poor first half excellent second half must of had a rocket up his arse at half time.
    Gayle 4 – didn’t looked fit.
Mitro 8 – Thought he had a good game when he came on chased everything battled well – held the ball up – linked up play and got back and defended to.
Atsu 5 – not on long enough but brilliant cross at the end pity no one gambled on getting in the box.

All – in – all not the best display but got the result we needed.

Crowd brilliant at start but went quite until Lansbury lifted the crowd with his own goal

Always is good to see that the fans know best.

We’re top of the league with a completely new team that Rafa has built just about from scratch and the fans are still saying that he sets up wrong.

I personally think that our defence is sh!te but can’t complain about Rafa’s decisions, but we are still shouting for 2 up front.

Obviously, playing the way he is Rafa has no idea what he’s doing and we know better!

Trouble with Mitro is that he can’t score
