Newcastle Winger Praises Fans – Gallowgate Flags Deserve Accolades

The display from the Gallowgate Flags group was simply fabulous and they deserve all the credit for the work they have done this season to bring back the flags to St. James’ Park.

And although Newcastle started very slowly in the end it was a fairly comfortable 2-0 win against Aston Villa and Villa’s 7th league loss in the last eight games.

Huge flag of Sir Rafa Benitez unfurled at St. James’ Park last night

And here are some of the legends flags unfurled before last night’s game.

Christian Atsu got on for the last few minutes of the game and he tweeted congratulations to the fans after a hard fought win.

Maybe 8 more wins in the final 14 games will see us promoted?

Here’s where you can donate to Gallowgate Flags if you want to see even more terrific flags at the Gallowgate end.

Comments welcome.

I’m not too sure either, he doesn’t get that much game time, whether he thins himself too good to be a bit part player or whether we want him as an impact sub is hard to tell, maybe a more soilid attacking LB would allow him to flourish on the LW.

Ruddy slagging off Dummett. As usual showing he knows nothing about football.

I agree with others that Diame was poor last night. Of course Perez has had some poor games also but he never stops trying even when things are not going right for him whereas Diame just seemed to stroll through the entire game.

I think atsu and ritchie either side of a decent no 10 ( we dont have one yet) would be hard to stop, in order for this to happen we need a better defence,.
I think playing Ritchie and Atsu at home would give us more going forward at home, hopefully we may try that once were confirmed as promoted and champions, maybe for the last 4-5 home games .
Hopefully, the opposition teams can start taking points off each other and we can carry on with our unbeaten run ,3 points vs Bristol will be a good srart, 72 points by the end of feb is decent, maybe even 73-75 if we play well vs Brighton

Diame didn’t have a good game but he did give us a physical presence something that Perez doesn’t give. I personally think Perez with mitro is the way to go with Gayle being injured but my biggest concern with Perez is he’s brings nothing when playing badly and that’s been often the case since his debut season.

Opposition players can blow on him and he falls over, he takes to many touches and is a greedy little player which I wouldn’t mind but we’d be in a better position if he had a little team ethic about him

Aye a better LB would help him but he just hasn’t really impacted anything much this season. Might replace Gouffran next season on the bench though…i read 5 mill for him which is pretty good price but am not convinced

I like atsu and think when he’s been given opportunities he has hardly let us down. Unfortunately he hasn’t been given a lot of starts so it would be unfair to judge his contribution. He’s really been used as an impact sub this year so I think it’s fair to say he has made an impact on matches, Rotherham and Wigan comes to mind and a number of games he’s been brought off the bench to see out games and allow us to play counter. For me that is making a positive impact, not just goals and assists. He put in a fantastic cross yesterday too which nobody gambled on, if Gayle was fit he’d have got on the end of it for sure.

I’m a little bias though and was sold on him when he was at Porto. I think there’s a fantastic player in there and think give a year or so he’ll start making more correct choices on the pitch and be a potent winger.

Should he not of started more this srason though? We aren’t blessed on the wings yet he’s not really included in rotation think he has 6 starts and there’s not a great deal of quality in this league

Was a great night at the match footy was not great last night but 3 points that’s what matters but apart from that it was great to see all the flag out especially that big one with which said we are united hope raffa gets the message we want him to stay long term we will always be United win or lose.

On Atsu, I think if he hadn’t gone to the ACON he would be starting games more, although Goufy is playing quite well at the moment. Thought he was played out of the game by the ref last night

Just to add another question on the subject of the Gallowgate Flags: The very existence seems dependent on fund raising by the Gallowgate Flags Group and I wonder if they’ve thought about selling the flags to fans at cost price, plus a small margin? There may be benefits in that personal ownership eradicates the risk and cost of flags disappearing post-match and more importantly, sales would bring in revenue to produce even more flags for sale to fans to display them throughout SJP and even away games – home club permitting of course.

    Just a thought.
