Newcastle Fans React To Gayle Injury News

It was bad news on Dwight Gayle this morning and it looks like he will miss the next 6 games and be out at least until April 1st after the next International break.

But we cannot panic and it’s now a great chance for players like Aleksandar Mitrovic and Daryl Murphy to show what they are made of and do a job for the team.

It’s a blow to be sure, but you get those every season and now we need to pull together and give players like Mitro and Daryl full support – they can still fire us to promotion.

Congratulations are in order for Jib who recently took part in an unusual pet competition. He won first prize with a tin of salmon.

Can’t see too much trouble coming from Bristol, although saying that they drew with Wednesday and only lost by the one goal against Brighton & Huddersfield

Me either but seems a touch harsh to ignore them haha lost their goal scorer to I just aswell lad from Chelsea I think? Got 19 goals which is surely the majority of theirs this season

Be surprised if we don’t win by a few and get a clean sheet

Tammy abram or something like that, hes decent but missing so no concern, We just need to stay on our game, it just means we need Shelvey, Ritchie, Perz and Gouffy to get closer to the action and make room for either Murphy or Mitro to score….A few goals from them will see us ok.
Im glad the likes of Atsu and even Sameobi are back, we may just need something completely different in the next few games as i would imagine Shelvey being man marked in the important games.

not good but the team have been good without him.
I’ve a feeling Mitro and Diame are going to sort out the challengers.
Another good thing is defence is looking better lately.

In the absence of Gayle I wouldn’t mind seeing both Murphy and Mitrovic up front, though I doubt it will happen.

    Darlow

    Yedlin—–Lascelles—–Clark—–Dummet

    Ritchie—–Shelvey—–Diame—–Atzu

    Murphy—–Mitrovic

It’s a nice thought, and the bench would be very strong too.

Real shame about Gayle, we will miss his pace and cutting edge.
We need to lift our game we’ve been poor lately, grinding out results is OK but our players are playing too much back and sideways football these days and seem to have lost pace, all too often beat to the ball.
We need to look like we want it more like we did earlier in the season, especially with Huddersfield being on a mission.

We’ve ground out games and picked up points but we haven’t put in strong performances. Against Bristol, personally I’d start with Goufy up front and bring in Atsu on the wing

I’ve a horrible feeling we might not see Gayle again this season. It’s obviously a continual problem he has with his Hamstrings and a few weeks treatment does not seem to be enough. As his whole game is based on turning, speed and acceleration his Hamstrings have to be completely healed.

Jib .. agreed, I feel we’ve turned the corner, I think benitez has worked on something defensively to improve us, nevermind Shelvey being back which is huge.

They may offer more goals, both are capable of holding the ball up, and bringing others into play, but we tend to miss out on crosses into the box, having two big strikers up there will double the chances of getting on the end of them, or grabbing the chance from a knockdown.

It’s may not be to everyone’s taste mate, but with Atsu, Yeddlin and Ritchie getting crosses in to the two big men we are sure to convert some of them.

barkel @10 – I think recently our best performance has been the second half against Norwich – we played some good stuff and made a lot of chances. Apart from that I would tend to agree with you.

Not for me like just sounds slow and lumbering to me. I’d rather see Goofy or Perez up top personally but it’ll be Mitro or Murphy probably the Serb

It was an idea, we all know Rafa will only play with one up top, but then we lose so much possession with the long ball, as we have no one supporting the lone striker, hence playing from the back. Two big lads up front would worry defences, and they would be reluctant to push up. Like I said just a thought.

I agree, Mitrovic will be the most likely starter while Gayle is out. I would like to see Gouffran given a chance upfront too, it may take him a couple of games to find his feet, but I think he could do a job at this level.

firebug666 – I think Rafa would only do that if we were chasing a game for the last 5 – 10 minutes – similar to when he put on Gayle & Mitro at home against Norwich.

why is no one mentioning wor perez like? the game on monday night wasnt to gayles style there was no space in behind the back 4 of villa the game needed a mitrovic or a murphy anyway and it worked, if we go into games where their is space in behind am sure the likes of perez can play as that pacey striker upfront but am not worried i think we have enough without gayle to see us through maybe ill be wrong but its a good chance for mitro and perez to earn their stripes maybe even gouffy might play upfront as atsu is clearly capable down that left

A win doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve played well. What do you think we played like in the first half against Villa?
We’ve been grinding out results and you know it?

Jib – excellent stuff you are keeping the blog royally entertained with your gaffes/bloopers/bungling.
Man you are on a bad run – perhaps you should consider a fortifying tonic.
    Anyway totalling points up.
    win/win/draw/win equals 3 +3 + 1 + 3.
This does not give a points tally of 9.
Use your fingers and thumbs duh.

I’d be happy to see Gouffran given a run upfront or possibly even give Atsu a go. Has he not played more centrally before? He gave Bristol City the runaround at their place!

Just looking at the dates of these upcoming games….5 in the space of 2 weeks.

    Sat 25/2 vs Bristol (h)
    Tue 28/2 vs Brighton (a)
    Sat 4/3 vs Huddersfield (a)
    Tue 7/3 vs Reading (a)
    Sat 11/3 vs Fulham (h)

My point? I imagine we’re going to see a fair bit of rotation during the next 2 weeks and I imagine most of our squad are going to have a big part to play.

It’ll be interesting to see how Rafa plans for this. Am I right in recalling that last time we had such close fixtures, we didn’t do very well?

Shadow – I think most of the games where Mitro has started Perez is usually in the no.10 & when Gayle has started it tended to be Diame.

Ibiza – We had a couple of runs of fixtures like that at the start of the season, it was where we picked up big wins mid-week (QPR first run, Preston second run). Then there was Christmas/New Year where there was a fair fixture build up when we didn’t do as well but I think Shelvey was missing for a few of those games
