Newcastle Defender Embodies The Rafa Benitez Philosophy

Ciaran Clark has been one of our best players this season and who would have thought Ciaran would come in for £5M from Aston Villa and play so well for us this season?

That’s a surprise especially when like other Villa players he did not play well last season, but it shows Rafa knows a good player when he sees one.

Ciaran had attended a Junior Magpies signing session with the youngsters, who just love it and can see and speak to the players and some of the pictures put out are great.

Ciaran Clark – in training

Ciaran then gave an interview for nufcTV and this is some of what he said in that interview:

“It’s a blow to us that Dwighty came back and then had to go off injured – but Mitro came on and did really well.”

“Murph has also shown he is more than capable of getting goals when given the chance.”  “We obviously want Dwight back as soon as possible, but we know we have lads ready to step in.”

“We feel like we are on a good run now, in good form.” “It is all about concentrating on the next game and staying focused.”

“We know we have got the three away games in a week and it will be tough, physically and mentally.”

“We are confident and we know what we have to do – but it is all about this home game with Bristol City first.”

“It was a good win for us, we knew that Aston Villa were a good side and they have got some good players – we knew that we were in for a tough game.”

“We got the goal and that settled us down and then the second which killed the game.”

“We wanted to focus on getting a clean sheet and we know we have the players to then score the goals.”

“It was a hard-fought game at Bristol City earlier this season and that is what it is all about in this league.”

“It isn’t about playing pretty football all the time, it is all about showing the fight and making sure you come off the pitch with the three points.”

We watched the interview with Ciaran Clark and he’s an impressive young man and certainly Rafa has brought in some really strong characters this season and that seems to be a priority for the manager.

And in that interview you can hear Rafa Benitez’ pragmatic philosophy coming through loud and clear.

Ciaran has probably been our best performing defender all season but others have done very well too.

Rafa wants honest hard-working and skilled players who will give their all for Newcastle United.

So do the Newcastle fans.

    Lindisfarne

You could be on to something, the players we have available would probably suit that formation a bit better

People of cited some of Rafa’s signings as disasters and considering the amount of signings made I can think of only Lazaar and Sels that haven’t worked out, if Hanley had of been slightly better than Clarke would that mean Clarke was a disaster, just because Hanley hasn’t played much doesn’t mean he is a disaster. In fact he is hugely important as he has shown he can come in and do a job when asked.

Jeffery doesn’t get called out for his mistakes he gets called out for his attitude towards others and inability to have a civil discussion

    Oldgit,
It is common knowledge that Jib used to post as jeff from benwell who was an unadulterated racist, homophobic troll who was eventually banned. Jib returned as a toned down version with old scores to settle, it is hardly anyone else’s fault as he carries these scores on.

Forever the optimist but I don’t think either Lazaar or Sels have been failures yet just struggled, I still think atleast Lazaar will come good but might be next season in a less strength based league

If bleeding Huddersfield and Brighton would quit breathing down our neck he might see some game time this season

    G,
He was signed as a covering FB and due to Dummet staying injury free and Yedlin settling in has’t needed to. In the past he simply wouldn’t have been signed and sods law would have seen Dummet injured, Clarke moved across to LB and total disruption to the back four, the fact that is there willing to wait his turn shows his importance.

Jail for Ashley, I admit I do sometimes cringe at some of the comments Jib put on, but the abuse he gets off you and some of the others are over the top to the point of collective bullying, which I’m dead against.
An example of when Martoon and Jib had a small difference of opinuim this morning which you were quickly tried to stoke the fire even though it was sorted prior to your outburst.
Life is good at the moment with our team being top of the league, a fantastic manager, me going to the match on Saturday. Why would I want to read the nasty comments or anyone else for that matter.
Ed has supplied us with a great blog let’s use it properly.

Clark is right to emphasise clean sheets.

We have14 clean sheets in 32 games in the League this season – not bad but could do better.

I we had achieved clean sheets in the games we failed to score in , we would be 5 points better off.

This is a good blog and the format is also very good and user friendly.
If folk are genuinely interested in having a decent blog standard (of blogging) and a place where kids come on, and to stop foul abuse with comments such a “suck my co*k” – lets hear from you. Make your distaste known .
In the meantime, some on the blog are prepared to do the heavy lifting to point the finger of shame at the miscreants.
