He’s A Great Guy To Go Into Battle With – A Wealth Of Experience

DeAndre Yedlin met with the press yesterday just before Rafa’s press conference at 1:00 pm and the 23 year-old American full-back talked about what Rafa has been telling them about the game this afternoon against Bristol City.

It looks an easy game on paper, but as we all know that’s when there can be some big surprises, so we cannot take anything for granted.

DeAndre Yedlin with Rafa Benitez

In the last 14 games of the season Rafa and the lads are going for a win in every single game.

We must win those games against the lower placed teams in the league if we are to stay at the top of the league and get promoted.

Newcastle are currently one point ahead of Brighton and we will stay at the top if we win today.

2Brighton463493
3Reading46485
4Sheffield Wednesday461581
5Huddersfield46-281
6Fulham462880

This is some of what DeAndre said in his press conference yesterday:

“If you’re not excited about the next couple of months, then you shouldn’t be playing.”

“We’re all very excited, and we’re all very focused. “Hopefully, we’ll get a win against Bristol, and then the whole thing will roll on until the end of the season.”

“It’s obviously in the back of our heads, and it’s not easy to blank out that week of games.”

“But one of the things that Rafa keeps preaching to us is that we have to focus on this game, because it is not going to be easy.”

“If we’re not focused on this, then they can catch us cold and hurt us.”

“There are no easy games in this league, so if you’re not properly focused you can come unstuck.”

“Rafa’s a great guy to go into battle with. “He has a wealth of experience from years of managing in high-pressure situations.”

“He preaches the right things to us, and we try to follow.”

Let’s hope the lads can execute the game-plan perfectly today and get a valuable 3 points.

Cheers – yes I think we are a bit static up front without Gayle.
ie at the end of the game Monday night Atsu pulled the ball back across the goal and there was no-one there/gambled to get into the six yard box to try to get onto the end of it.

Perez has the mobility to do a better job of the running for us, just needs to do it more and get his head up when he gets in good positions.

I’m all for trying Ritchie upfront. But we need him out wide while Anita is out to help Yedlin and provide protection, those two seem to have struck up a great partnership and understanding on that right flank.

Perez just needs to stand his ground more and try and be more productive and bring others into play. As he seems a bit greedy at times

One of the unfortunate outcomes of the Ranieri sacking is the possible salvation of the scum-on-the-wear.

@7, on paper you should be correct, but I can’t shake off this feeling they will pull off the great escape again. I can see the Boro going down though, they can’t buy a goal these days. If they lose to Palace I reckon they are deffo gone, although I would love to see Palace down too just to shut Fat Sam up about having never been relegated.

Yeah some of SAMs comments are looking increasingly bizarre. Egomaniac. Thinks he’s some kind of Demi God.

The big questions seem to be:
    Perez/Diame
    Colback/Anita maybe Diame?
    Ritchie/Atsu
Think most have not changed the defence and Mitro/Gouffy/Shelvey.

I’m not having this ‘potential banana skin’ thinking about today’s game like. If the team learns by past mistakes complacency-wise and turns up with focus this afternoon we will comfortably win, against a team with 37 less points than us from 32 games. No excuses.
It would be good if we went for the throat from the first minute, get 2 or three ahead and withdraw those we need to. But I think by now we know Rafa will probably apply his method and establish ourselves in the game, then wear them down.
    Howay the lads!

Blunderland, Palace and Leicester for the drop?
Boro, Hull, Swansea to stay up?
Leicester need another looker as manager to go with HippoHeed and Gollum. Maybe Ol”arry?

I would go with Diame up front with Mitro today. Looking at Bristols recent form I think its a game that would suit both players. Keep Perez on the bench till the last 15mins for a late burst of pace.

Ritchie up front wouldn’t work simply because then our midfield would be totally stuck in the mire. Unless jack colback continues his rise to attacking midfielder 😐

If all of those potential banana skins had of been losses for us we’d be in the relegation zone. But if the ones that weren’t loses were laid end to end then we’d have a long line of banana skins.

A draw for SW and Leeds and of course a win for Barnsley with wor Adam scoring a few goals would be fantastic.

Leicester pretty much let down by lack of forward planning.
If they’d offered N’Golo Kante a new contract in Jan 2016 and got rid of that stupid buy-out clause he would still be at Leicester and they’d probs be mid table at the mo’.

OK, a win today to give us a cushion for next games. There’s a loss in there somewhere. Hope it isn’t Huddersfield 😉

Yorkshire derby – in half an hour !

    Leeds vs Sheffield Wednesday

    5th vs 6th

Do we want one of them to swap with Reading in 4th or would a draw be better in the big picture ?
