Perez, Ritchie And Atsu Start Against The Robins

Rafa Benitez has just announced his team for the game against Bristol City this afternoon at St. James’ Park and Perez and Atsu come into the side as we had expected.

But Atsu comes in for Gouffran and not for Matt Ritchie who starts the game even though he is on 9 yellow cards..

The defense and central midfield are unchanged from those that played in the 2-0 win against Aston Villa last Monday night, so this is a strong side to play the Robins.

And Anita, Murphy and Gamez are on the bench today – so it’s good to see Vurnon Anita back in the squad after recovering from his ankle injury.

This is what Rafa said yesterday about the game this afternoon which he expects will be a tougher game than people are expecting:

“We know that it will be difficult.” “They are well organised, they work hard, so even though we have lost Gayle and they lost Abraham, they still have good players,”

“They’re a team who are working very hard.” “When we played against them in the first part of the season they were a very, good team.”

“You can see they have the same structure, the same organisation, and maybe they have been a bit unlucky with some goals.”

“In terms of how difficult it will be, it will be a tough game, as always.”

“Any game can go against you if you don’t do the right thing. You have to be sure that you are ready, prepared and try to do your best.”

“You can lose games that nobody is expecting, but you can win games that are very difficult.”

“I’m confident that the team is doing well and has the right mentality, and hopefully we can show this tomorrow on the pitch.”

Over 90% of fans expect us to win this game this afternoon – one of the highest win percentages this season – so it will be a huge upset if we cannot win this game.

Didnt expect Ritchie to start but hopefully he can keep his nose clean today.

Perez and Atsu are a little lightweight but hopefully provide pace and trickery to get the job done.

I feel bad but I don’t know any of their players. Who are their danger men in that starting 11?

WW, to be honest, I don’t recognise any of Bristol’s names either. I will be looking on WhoScored to get an idea of who’s who.

Wilbraham is a canny player, can’t see anyone else who should give us problems.

10/11 again I half suspected Atsu might start but for Richie not Gouffron.

On the Leeds game they are giving away loads of fouls and I don’t think the ref is being picky. Leeds could end up with 10 players easily. I got the game on pause at the moment.

Definitely a bit of an attacking feel to the team today.
need Mitro to keep his head and for Atsu to get some crosses in for him – if he can.
Mitro has to take his chances today.

I’m confident of a win but I doubt it will be an easy game. Rafa will have done his homework sure enough, and will know all about their players, but then it will depend on how much we allow them into the game and to gain confidence.

If we start like we did against Villa things could get very tough indeed.

Let’s hope that Barnsley nick the points from Huddersfield today, and maybe Reading taking points from Brighton. Then this could be a really good day.

That Wood from Leeds has scored again! He’s on fire him. Still young at 25 too. I wouldn’t mind him as backup if we manage to get promoted.
