The last time we had a home draw that had Newcastle fans near 90% thinking we would win the game was at home to 3rd bottom Blackburn on November 26th and we managed to lose that one 1-0 to end a 9 game winning streak.
Yesterday against a side without their top scorer somehow managed to go 2-0 up in the first 21 minutes and the goals conceded were again poor ones by Newcastle.
And once again poor communication between Karl Darlow and this time Paul Dummett gifted Bristol City their second goal.
Jonjo Shelvey celebrates after Smith own goal on 59 minutes
Karl looks nervous these days and maybe Rafa will be bold and bring back Rob Elliot for the game at Brighton on Tuesday night?
This was a side who had drawn two and lose five of their last seven games going up against a side at home who had won five and drawn two of our last seven games.
It looked a home banker but nothing is ever certain with Newcastle and we did say this could be a banana skin game.
Newcastle managed to drop another valuable two points as an own goal and a 82nd minute equalizer from Ciaran Clark saved some of the blushes to get us a 2-2 draw.
Brighton made no mistake at home in the late game to a much better side and beat Reading 3-0 to go back to top of the league.
The good news was 3rd placed Huddersfield could only draw 1-1 at Barnsley and remain 5 points behind us.
Now we play Brighton on Tuesday night followed by Huddersfield and Reading and Newcastle fans will be a little nervous over how those results will go.
We certainly are.
Thankfully for some reason we are better away from home than we are in front of over 52,000 fans at St, James’ Park.
There is something wrong with that.
But we live in hope and to not make an automatic promotion spot given where we are positioned with 13 games to go would be a tragedy.
But we have had a few of those in the last three years.
Did we ever say that Newcastle are a really difficult side to support?
