Former Newcastle Player Identifies Two Big Negatives

It’s not a good Sunday morning for Newcastle fans with the lads having once again thrown away two valuable points yesterday against 4th bottom Bristol City be gifting them with two early goals.

Where was the concentration Rafa has talked about all season long?

If we had won we would have been 7 points above third placed Huddersfield – 8 points if you take into consideration goal difference – with 13 games to play.

And former striker Mick Quinn points out that Rafa may leave in the summer even if we are promoted back to the Premier League – just in case some fans were feeling upbeat.

🙂

It never rains but it pours.

A smart-looking Mick Quinn – former Newcastle striker

Strange game. Am I the only one who found it strangely enjoyable – apart from the result, which was partly eased by Barnsley’s equaliser against Huddersfield. The second half was the most dominant I have seen us for ages and with a bit of luck, decent ref (blatant last man foul on Mitro) and / or a clinical finisher like Gayle we could have won the game 7-2 as someone said on an earlier blog. We have played worse and won.
Clearly the next 3-4 games are very important although as I think Rafa pointed out, there are still 9 or 10 games after that and a good run of wins from those would see us in the top 2. A draw against Huddersfield and draw / win against Brighton or Reading would be excellent. Let’s hope. In Rafa we trust.

Rafa going to China spells the end of his career and am not sure he’s willing to call time on that

Plus I don’t think ‘unnamed Chinese club’ will pay him 30 mill a year haha

Magpie6699 – a blatant foul on Mitro in the box which wasn’t even shown in the highlights.

    Ha ha ha

Sunderland fan Clive Hetherington had the following headline

“Ghosts of ’96 begin to haunt Toon”
in the Daily Mail on Tuesday 29 December 2009 when Hoots 13point Xmas lead started to get eroded.

    Some things never change.

It suits the Mirror to give space to these Mackem journos because let’s be fair who is going to buy a Sunday paper with the headline “Sunderland were shite again at Goodison”

On the Darlow Dummett gaff Darlows reaction looked to me like he had given Paul a shout? Anyone sat close enough to it to know?

Am sure I’ve seen Dummett do similar before but I might be wrong?

Steve Stone’s reaction was (not verbatim clearly)
“WTF is Darlow doing there ?”

Dummett, Clark and Atsu had the left side sorted and buzzing, especially second half. Ritchie was brilliant as was Yedlin, second half, though first half he was very lethargic. Shelvey was his usual, though he went for the glory near the end, when a simple would have been better.

Wouldn’t actually surprise me if Stone coached defenders to hammer headers towards their own goal then blamed the keeper

    Perez and Mitro – rubbish.
Mitro missed a header from 6 yards, again, and both he and Perez fall over far too easily. Neither anticipate crosses. A decent striker would have scored a hatful from Ritchie and Atsu’s crosses.
Not like they didn’t know -MoM Atsu beat their defence every time in the second half.

Lascalles looks like a liability, lets the ball bounce, slow to react and every time he gets the ball, my heart sinks! No communication. We need a vocal captain – Shelvey, Ritchie or Hanley.

HUGE game on Tuesday. Disaster if newcastle lose. It will be a dull afair where a scrapy goal could win it i reckon. All our goals recently seem to be very scrappy. Too many errors at the back. Might be time for Elliott.

No doubt Dummett will get the blame, but surely Darlow is at fault, again. Now 3 major bloopers, QPR, Norwich and here, costing us 6points! And his distribution is awful. The goalie coach needs to play the Bristol fans taking the Michael out of him! He nearly did it again, just after!

Both at fault imo but I’ve seen few say that seems Darlow is the main target. As for us list of dropped points Norwich is the only one I think he is mainly at fault for

Hopefully Murphy will start on Tuesday, Mitrovic is not offering enough up front. And he’s missing chances for fun, just like last year he is costing us points.

When having a striker up front who not scoring goals, it affects the players behind him as well. It’s time for Murphy now, he’s good in this division so give him playing time!

Dummett’s header was not goalwards and if Calamity Karl had not rushed out like a heedless chicken there would have been no issue!
    Clark’s header?
    Darlow’s big air kick?
Lascalles and Darlow repeating the carry on yesterday.
Sorry all down to Dodgy Darlow!

Dummett heads the ball past Darlow for no reason he can see where Darlow is but fluffed the header…why didn’t he just put it out instead of toward his own goal? Darlows reaction says he didn’t think he done wrong

Clarks header was Clarks header Darlow could of stayed on his line and that’s still in the net. Tbf though Clark shouldn’t of been on the pitch

The air kick aye his fault he slips and mis hits the ball

    Brilliant second half!
We could/ maybe should have scored a hatful.
Atsu missed a sitter, Shelvey a couple, Mitro an absolute sitter, maybe more, great shot from Perez, great save from Ritchie’s shot

This is an experienced solif outfit for Tuesday i reckon. Perez..astu are gambles rafa won’t do I reckon. Mitro not cutting it so murphy prob deserves a chance. Hanley might even get in instead of lascalles but prob not. Anita in for experience. Elliott deserves chance now too. Too many gk mistakes yesterday

Some great crosses from Atsu, Ritchie and Yedlin.
Mitro reminds me of Shola, in that he does not anticipate the crosses, so a arrives a second too late.
First half he was poor, doing his daft move that got him carded v Wolves. Rafa must have told him to challenge and actually jump in the second half! His link up play was very good, second half. The defender had both hands on him and was stopping him going to the ball when he would have been clean through, so should have been red carded. But like his header, I fear even if he had been through he would have missed! Would he even have scored the2 Bristol did?

Dummetts header would have gone out if it hadn’t been for Kalamity Karl’s intervention.

If poor old Mats Sels had had the past few weeks that Doylum Darlow has had , the fans would be in melt-down.

Like Mitro, I hope Lascalles and Darlow get it sorted. At least Lascalles and Darlow have been good most of the season. For me, not a matter of ever not supporting our players. Just saying it as I see it. RAFA is the manager, he knows best. If he keeps them all in for the next game, great. At the end of the day he is the world class manager, I’m a know nowt Toon fan!

Is Gayle fit for Tuesday? Maybe Murphy or even Gouff? Perez did well at home to Brighton. Options.
Lascalles is struggling, less vocal of late, too. Seems nervous.Think Shelvey should be captain, Hanley brought in.

Elliot in for Darlow and Murphey in for Mitro is a must now. Both are having horror shows atm. We can’t afford the luxury of gambling them another shot to impress. They’ve lost their chance in my eyes and we need consistent performers right now.

Perez is a tricky one as sometimes he does well and most of the time disappears in games. But having said that so does Diame.
We clearly need a proper number 10 and another creative box to box midfielder that is similar to Hayden for when he’s absent.
Colback is shite being honest. Did well last week but that’s it.

As for Mitro he has been extremely poor all season. Overhyped garbage in my eyes. Never is going to be a reliable striker and that position along with CB, and GK have to be reliable and conisitent to get anywhere in football. We can’t afford to risk starting him anymore. He is a good squad player to have but nothing more sadly. I don’t care how passionate he is he doesn’t produce the goods and goals win you games and he seldom scores any.

On Atsu brilliant start for him vs Bristol from what I heard. Everytime he plays he always looks to get past his man with his electric pace, is forward thinking and constantly creates chances and knows how to strike the ball cleanly. Consistent quality winger. We should sign him permanently in May. Maybe for the EPL we need better but he is a great squad player to have for that league.

I really hope Benitez starts Murphy in place of Mitro if Gayle is still not fit. And Darlow needs a rest and Elliot given a chance after being so patient.

Gayle will be starting at Brighton

    Team will be:
    Darlow
    Yedlin
    Clark
    Lascelles
    Dummett
    Colback
    Shelvey
    Gouffran
    Ritchie
    Diame
    Gayle

Yesterday was another gamble against perceived weaker opposition that back-fired spectacularly – nothing will be left to chance on Tuesday evening.

It is the archetypal 6 – pointer.
