Rafa Warns Of Difficult, Dangerous Games Ahead For Newcastle

Rafa Benitez is the calm one after any game and even when Newcastle somehow managed to come from 1-0 behind to win such an important game at Brighton tonight with two goals in the final nine minutes, he was his same calm and measured self – never getting carried away.

Not like some of us!

Rafa was pleased our lads played well in the second half against what he says is a very good team that Chris Hughton has put together in a fairly short time frame on the south coast.

We have tough games at Huddersfield and Reading followed by a home game against Fulham and then another away game at Birmingham before the two week international break and we need some wins in those games.

Two classy managers and gentlemen shake hands before the game
Rafa Benitez and Chris Hughton

Rafa is thankful of the win and say his team will have some confidence now in the very tough game on Saturday at the Terriers.

Here’s what Rafa said after the game as reported in the Chronicle:

“For us the pressure is the same. We approach every game trying to win.” “Huddersfield and Reading will be the same pressure but we have the same confidence.”

“It means we have confidence.” “Still, it will be difficult and dangerous. There are still a lot of games to play and we have to make sure we continue to work hard.”

“We were lucky but it was one we could score.” “It was calm and Ayo showed some composure.” They did well. I was pleased with the reaction of the players.”

“We created a lot of good situations before that.”

“I think we have had great games and you can talk about Norwich at home.”

“But the main thing here is we played against a very good team.” “That gives us satisfaction.”

Here’s how the table stands after tonight’s game where Newcastle got a great result but the performance wasn’t our best tonight.

    Moanster,
Lucky to win my arse, what pundit would say that, we were the better team. Did you expect us to go to our nearest rivals with a pumped up full house and wipe the floor with them, get real will you, get behind the team instead of your incessant whinging.
    RUNAWAY,
Bro, you’d do well to learn how to spell korectlee.

If we beat Huddersfield I think 7 wins after that should be enough. ..97 points

The Huddersfield game is a big one.

More of the same result please

Dummett for motm for me, saved 2 certain goals and 2 other great blocks we could have been 3 down by then too, I wish people would realise he is a defender! How many points has he got us this season alone
Yeldlin on the other hand had a bit of a shocker tonight looks a lot better with Ritchie on his side tho
Great result in the end tho, a draw will do against Huddersfield now but no gouff upfront please

I went for dummett as well, knockaert in his pocket again. Saved darlow with that clearance and crucial header in the first half. I’m not convinced by him for the PL but as a squad player and this season he’s done very well

Tbh ourtoon i like my defenders to defend the rest of the team are there for the rest it just gets me goat when he gets criticised for a bad touch or cross instantly but never any praise for his actual job which he very rarely let’s you down even in the prem
yedlin in the last game couldn’t beat the first man on countless crosses last game not a word was said if it was dummett it would have been he isn’t even league 2 standard lol

Jail stick to slagging the owner, your whole life meaning. I dont think we cud have complained if we drew 1-1, as Rob Lee said. Vital win but I don’t think we were great. Good, not great. We have a superior squad to them and they are our nearest challengers. I think the fitness of guys like Ritchie was key, and the backroom team and Rafa deserve great praise for this

What a great and result tonight.

Ordinarily, we’d expect to hear Rafa looking forward to a smooth transition to next season.

He’s dealing with the present (‘The priority this season is to get Newcastle promoted and everybody associated with the club must be pulling in the same direction’)

Using ‘Pulling in the same direction’ suggests to me that the matter of control over transfers has not been resolved.

If, yes it’s if, Ashley digs in in on Carr having more influence on transfers (aka being in charge of transfers), then promotion or not, Rafa could well walk away.

It seems that all remains unwell in the corridors if power at SJP.

Why didn’t Ashley keep his short-term, Carr driven trap shut during the last window?

    And, Charnley’s silence in deafening!

Ashley: Get a grip of yourself man!!!

    Brilliant win
Penalty decision was shite but by hell it galvanised the team into action and never looked back. Better team from then
created a hatful of chances but for better finishing and bit of luck by their defenders until ….
Murphy came on – scared there defence shitless – fortune goal from Diame. Great move foe O and strike for Perez’s goal.

Got to play Atsu on the left – gets in great first time crosses – on right tends to cut back on himself to cross.

Whole team played well from the fifteenth minute onwards. Great result lets take that display into Saturday…

Mom cannot give one was not there but two that stood out on the tele: Ritchie and Dummett

    Night Night!!!!!!!

First half Diame was hopeless, slow and ponderous and despite his height couldn’t (again) win anything in the air.

Much better second half where he wasn’t having to try running down their back line, he’s much better in the midfield, although I still think Hayden will get the nod when he’s fully fit again.

However how can anyone doubt that he meant to score the way he did, it was a wonder goal.

Awful first 15 as usual more often than not we crawled out the blocks, after that we were pretty good and deserved the win as all the stats showed HTL.

Essex, agree re diame. We had no high press first half although its not a Rafa approach. Diame can do better. Dummett is so solid but he gets killed here. Well done to all tonite, not sure we would have won without the mad equaliser though but it’s a stunning win. Nite all

Nobody seems to give Lascelles much credit. I think people take his robust presence and strong headed clearances for granted. I can’t remember when we had a CB as good.

I don’t think so he’s probably up there with our worst performers this season especially minutes played
he has a good 5 mins every now and then, really disappointed by him Tbh thought he would tare it up

    Blackley,
Agree that Lascelles is doing a job! Not only in his play on the pitch, but as captain! The team in terms of togetherness, toughness and fighting from behind spirit does not even remotely resemble the team this time last year. Much credit to Rafa of course but some respect to Jamaal is due!

Cant help but be over joyed by the result. Thought Brighton were deserved leaders first half and we deserved a draw for our peformance 2nd half.

Was a bit shocked he didnt start either Murphy or Mitro, to me that shows he doesnt really fancy either. To start with Gouff up top was a bit shit like IMO.

I have been a massive Mitro fan from the start but you can see in Murphy he should be the choice whilst Gayle is out. Hes a beast in the air, chases things down, brings the wingers into the game.

Mitro is struggling for confidence I think but he loses it far too easily for me like. He has had chance after chance. at £15mill signing he should be first choice to play over the likes of Gouff and Murphy but hes now Technically 4th choice striker

The only good thing on this evening in Brighton was that we win the game. But our Manager Rafa is as bad as all the other managers in the last years. Why he play with 4 – 4 -1 –
1 and with Goofy in the front? And why he don`t change
before minute 70. This is absolut not a good job. Hope he will learn from his mistakes, so we can show in Huddersfield that we are the real first place team.

I don’t post on here much because quite frankly there is a lot of nonsense spouted, no more then this comment. I can’t believe what I’m reading, what qualifies you to say this? It’s supporters like you that bring the club down and give us real fans this persona of being deluded. How can we ever be successful if you’re constantly on the managers back, even if we win!!! Clearly Rafa knows what he’s doing, we were unfortunate to go one behind to a contentious decision. Was it not Rafas sub that scored the winner? We’re top of the league, but people are moaning… why? I think you’ve been playing too much champ manager, or you’re about 12 (if you are you’ll learn) anyway, I’m out.
