Rafa said early this afternoon he had been pleased with Dwight Gayle in training over the last three days and that he has looked good and seems to have his confidence back and he’s in the squad for the game at Huddersfield tomorrow.
It’s not clear if Rafa will start Dwight tomorrow but we think he will, because one of the positives for Newcastle is that he will cause some concern for the Huddersfield defense, especially on the counter attack.
That may leave some other players unmarked who could potentially get some chances to score.
Dwight Gayle – could start tomorrow
All our players did well at Brighton so here’s the team we think Rafa will start tomorrow afternoon in the late kickoff game.
Darlow
Yedlin Lascelles (c) Clark Dummett
Shelvey Colback
Richie Diame Atsu
Gayle
It was a toss-up as to who starts on the left wing between Gouffran and Atsu but both players should make an appearance in tomorrow’s game.
We are keeping Jack Colback in there with Shelvey in central midfield because of his experience, but there is a chance Rafa could try the fit-again Vurnon Anita there – or maybe Vurnon could come in at right-back and give Yedlin a rest.
If Gayle doesn’t start then Rafa could give a rare start to Daryl Murphy who looked good on Tuesday night, but it really depends on what Rafa’s game plan is for the in-form Terriers.
What would your team be for tomorrow’s very tough game?
Comments welcome.

Comment #3I recall someone joking or bemoaning that some on here have called so many games the most important game of the year. But I truly feel this is the one. As Bobby and others pointed out, a win will almost surely guarantee promotion. I bet Brighton is rooting for us. A draw or lose and, yes, we will have another most important game. I say this inferring that top two is far more important than wining league, but after we win tomorrow, lets keep that top spot.

I have been looking at those games as well and was another reason why the Brighton and now Hudd game is so important. When I started looking it was 5 of top six (pre Brighton Game). On paper, no doubt it seems we have it more difficult, but playing top teams away has been a good thing. Win tomorrow and I do not think it matters who we play.

Could work for us by not playing the bottom teams as they will be fighting for their life – maybe not Rotherham but the rest Forest, Burton, Wolves, Bristol Blackburn and Wigan there is only 6 points between them

Comment #10Trying to look at the teams that will be fighting for a playoff spot and those fighting off relegation and which of the top three are playing either and when and I got a headache. Take a team like Cardiff, 6-1-3 and middle of the table. You just don’t know what a team’s form will be when you play them. I think we are playing more teams fighting for a playoff position, or fending off relegation, so you would presume they will be going all out, but we all presume that we get that same play just because they are playing Newcastle. I’ll stick to the one game at a time Mantra, and the next game is HUGE.

Comment #15I have a feeling Gayle will end up with an absolute maximum of 25, so we’ll need goals from elsewhere as well.
Good words from dummet. Forgot that save off the line. Didn’t used to fancy him, he’s doing his best to change my mind. Hats off.
Can we pull off a draw? I’ll be happy.

From several posts earlier in day: sorry mate, didn’t mean to offend anyone. Just a little friendly needling to those bloggers who picked the lads to finish out of the auto promotion places in their forecasts! 🙂
Speaking of the forecast: I picked Mitro to be both player of the year and to tally 25 goals! So I clearly am no wise prophet either…

Comment #26Should Swansea get relegated this year I would hope NUFC makes Gylfi Sigurdson their number one summer target, to be played in #10 spot in Rafa’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. This season, while playing for a lower tier BPL team he has scored 8 goals, with 9 assists. And he is excellent in taking most of his side’s set pieces. No disrespect to Ayoze or Mo Diame but neither seem to fit the #10 role very comfortably. Current cost estimate for Sigurdson is 20M €, which in this market would be a bargain!!! He is 27 years old so at prime of his career!

Think we will see gayle maybe given a half hour if things are going well
Murphy deserves a start I think
Would like too diame in with shelvey again too . To me he looked more suited running at them .
And I’d have Perez in behind the striker .but I am picking the team I think most likely if not my preference
Result 1.0 to us
