Rafa – Dwight Gayle Is Fine – He’s In The Squad

Rafa Benitez has just completed his press conference for maybe our toughest league game of the season at Huddersfield tomorrow afternoon in the late kick-off game.

The big news from the press conference is that Dwight Gayle is fine and he’s in the squad having trained well for the last three days – so that’s really positive news from the manager this afternoon.

Rafa’s comments are now being reported both on the Newcastle United Twitter account and on Chronicle Live.

Here are some of those comments and they are in no particular order of priority:

“Tuesday night has given us more confidence for the future… It was important for the next games.”

“In the first game we played against Huddersfield, they were well organised and pressing well.”

“Dwight Gayle is fine – he is in the squad and has trained for three days.”

“To have beaten Brighton, and also the number of games we’ve won away, shows that the team know what to do.”

“Huddersfield have same style vs every team. We’ll not change our approach. They’ve something to play for, that brings pressure for them.”

“Mentality is important for us. We must believe we have enough quality to win every game. We think about Huddersfield now, that’s it.”

“I remember people saying at the start of the season, ‘Rafa needs to address the away form’. Now we need to do it at home”

Fans are more confident than they were for the Brighton game and over half think we can win this game tomorrow.

We need a good result and a draw is a good result – so the Terriers don’t gain on us

i’m sitting here scratching my as to how we are top of the table, if i listened to these pundits who know hardly anything we would be slightly above relegation this season. we are the highest scores in the division and gayle has scored only 30% of them. pratton knows nothing

Don’t rush him back again. He was ‘fine’ before his last return.

In that case it’s going to be between him and Murphy to start imo. I’d start Big Murph to give their def a hard time then bring on Dwight around 60 mins.

He came off v Villa but medically there’s no issue it’s Gayle having his own doubts. As he’s now back in squad he must’ve received or heard what he needed to hear about his injury. Perhaps psychology rather than physiotherapy was needed.

I agree Hail, keep him on the bench, we’re quite alright for strikers at the moment no need to rush him back into the first X1. I think Murph has earned a start after his cameo at Brighton, the game completely changed when he came on

You never know, if the three bottom clubs did Leicester’s and we went into freefall we could end up playing Carlisle next year. NOT!!!!! 🙂

Colback out, Murphy in and Diame in midfield? Exciting game tomorrow, can’t wait!

i’d be tempted to do exactly the same again. give goof an hour to run himself silly and then bring murphy on again.

things always seem to improve when colback gets subbed and diame goes in next to shelvey.

The good news Bill, even if we get no more points this season we can’t get relegated.

I reckon it’ll be Murphy in for Gouffran and Perez in for Diame.

I have a feeling Rafa wont play him from the start. That said, if its a psychological issue, he might be better off getting him on the pitch. I have a strong feeling he wont start.

Same starting 11 as brighton will be fine. We could have been out of sight with chances created. The team therefore were doing what they were supposed to be doing so why change it. Comfortable win tomorow

Whatever Rafa does, i hope he starts with Diame next to Jonjo, Atsu and Ritchie on the wings , he may go with Anita at rb and push yedlin further upmthe pitch so he can play Atsu on the left and Ritchie as the 10.
So many ways to play them and its going to get worse with Aarons coming back shortly……..bring it on

Cheers for that, I hadn’t worked it out but I thought we were probably safe. 🙂

I would imagine we are pretty nailed on for at least the play-offs.

Perish the thought that that should happen though, we shouldn’t (will not) need them.

Hail, I reckon same team. I think he will want Diame’s running power ( when he’s bothered) against this energetic Huddersfield side. Wagner has probably done proportionally the best job in this division as I think they had to buy loads of players and were favoured by some for relegation. That’s not having a go at rafa, although the deranged disciples will think it is and get all touchy. I liked Rafa going public and saying Huddersfiled will start to feel the pressure now – good on him.

Huddersfield press high up the pitch and won’t change their style. If Gayle plays or comes on as sub he could have a field day sitting on their defenders and breaking forward !
