19 Year-Old Defender A Great Buy For Newcastle This Summer

It’s almost certain that Chancel Mbemba will be leaving Newcastle this summer, since he hasn’t had much of a look in this season under Rafa Benitez – and the last two times he has played – both defeats he played poorly.

And it may even be that Grant Hanley could move on, although Hanley is a good player who has played in the Premier League before for Blackburn Rovers and made 31 appearances in England’s top division.

So it seems that Rafa Benitez will be bringing at least one new center-back in this summer to fight for a first team place, which at the moment are held by captain Jamaal Lascelles and former Villa defender Ciaran Clark.

19 year-old 6ft 5ins Partizan center-back Nikola Milenkovic

Both center-backs have played well and had good seasons for the Magpies.

One center-back who we have been linked with over the last six months or so is Partizan Belgrade center-back Nikola Milenkovic, the once capped Serbian International who at 19 years-old is one of the best young defenders in Europe.

The 6ft 5ins center-back came through the famous Youth Academy at Partizan and made his debut for the first team in the SuperLiga match against Mladost Lucani in April of 2015.

Rafa has had Newcastle scouts watching the youngster a number of times this season and he’s looked impressive.

Milenkovic has been a regular in the Partizan side this season but last November there was also significant interest shown in him by Italian giants Juventas, so Newcastle will likely face competition for him in the summer.

Other clubs said to be interested in him also include Ajax and Anderlecht and in late January Italian club Fiorentina were reported to be close to a deal for the center-back.

And Milenkovic almost moved to Anderlecht in a €4M deal in January, but when they failed to complete the transfer of Kara Mbodji to Leicester City, they withdrew their offer for the 19 year-old.

Milenkovic has a contract that lasts through June, 2020 and he would be an excellent signing for us this summer.

What do you think?

Jack, if they decide it’s deliberate it’s a ban, but I can see how he might claim it’s accidental. The elbow though, clear cut. He even accelerated the final fling to make sure it hurt! Be interesting to see how it goes now. Glad it can’t affect us either way. 🙂

I agree it is the rule and you assessment is probably right, but just feel that sometimes (like this tic for tac no hard feeling situation) a three game ban to each is just to severe. My point was more, should we have a rule change to allow for less of a punishment.

Jack, not sure mate, violent conduct has to be stopped and anything less than three games isn’t much discouragement. Assuming the head kick was deliberate, it could’ve been dangerous and that elbow was a potential jaw breaker. Aggravated by it being Revenge.

Please no Colback today either Diame in the CM spot or Anita. We looked much better when Diame dropped back.

If Forest beat Brighton that may well give Huddersfield that extra push to beat us knowing the gap would close greatly on the top 2.

Just been listening to guest speaker at PPG Canalside, Mick Buxton. I shook his hand and told him he’s using my script. Someone had asked him about modern day formations and he said formations are nonsense. He was bemoaning the sideways backwards football of today and was particularly scathing of John Stones, a player who can’t pass forward and has been overhyped like most players. He asked what the hell is a sitting midfielder. You need a midfielder to tackle, get forward, get back. When one goes the other drops in. Use width and get the ball to the penalty spot. Get bodies in the box. I told a Hudds fan I thought he was spot on. He called him a dinosaur. Would never survive today.

    They all seem confident here.

When he was here in the Keegan/McDermott days, Buxton said they only had 10 men to play Newcastle. One of the lads was working at the mill. They managed to get his employer to let him away at noon. They drew 1-1.

B&B, pride comes before a fall mate – hopefully anyway! 🙂 Norwich getting smashed 5-1 at Wednesday. If Brighton lose a draw becomes even better for us and a win will pretty much see us home. Very exciting prospect tonight.
